LO🥟 Interesting Fact:
Bao (2018) — Director Domee Shi drew heavily from her own life experiences as an only child to Chinese immigrants when creating this movie. She wanted to explore the overprotective nature of her mother, who would often treat her like a precious little dumpling to ensure she was always safe and close to home.
To make the dumpling-making process look as authentic as possible, the animation team brought in Domee Shi’s real-life mother to give a masterclass. The animators carefully studied her hand movements and technique while she kneaded the dough and folded the wrappers, directly translating her expert skills into the mother character’s actions within the movie.
