MICostume for the 1981 fantasy movie Dragonslayer produced by Collegeville. The box only refers to the costume as dragon, however the dragon is named Vermithrax Pejorative. Collegevile also produced a Galen costume based on Peter MacNicols character from the film.
Dragonslayer is a fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released in 1981. The movie is set in a medieval kingdom called Urland, where a vicious dragon named Vermithrax Pejorative, a 400-year-old dragon, terrorizes the land and demands the sacrifice of young maidens.
The story revolves around a young sorcerer’s apprentice named Galen Bradwarden, played by Peter MacNicol. Galen is the apprentice to the last known sorcerer, Ulrich of Cragganmore. A group of villagers seek out the sorcerers help to kill the dragon and save the kingdom. When his master is killed, the task falls to Galen and he embarks on a perilous journey to face the mighty dragon.
The visual effects in Dragonslayer were groundbreaking for its time, with the dragon Vermithrax Pejorative being a standout element. The filmmakers utilized a mix of animatronics, puppetry, and stop-motion animation to bring the dragon to life, creating a memorable and fearsome creature.

RIReally enjoyed the blu ray for the epic 1981 movie DRAGONSLAYER, with a terrific commentary track by director/writer Mathew Robbins and the great @gdtreal. Not to be missed by any sword and sorcery fan. The new transfer looks beautiful and that ILM Dragón (the best I’ve ever seen) remains magnificent/malevolent. Highly recommended. DAAnother prefrontal core memory for me in Flight of the Dragons is the Ogre of Gormley Keep. A bleddy terrifying ogre, and the death of Smrgol. But he went out with a bang. There are still no dry eyes in the house when this scene plays. Topcraft were the finest in the business and then went onto even greater things as Studio Ghibli!
Please never remake this brilliant, brilliant film. It is perfect exactly as it is.
