Morning.“ Uploaded to YouTube in June 2007, the video became widely popular due to the prairie dog’s theatrical demeanor, similar to other famous internet animals like OMG Cat and Inception Cat.
The prairie dog appeared in Episode 7 of „Hello Morning!“ in a segment called „Mini Moni Chicca,“ where J-Pop idols presented various cute pets. On June 6th, 2007, YouTube user magnets99 uploaded a clip titled „Dramatic Look,“ featuring the prairie dog with dramatic music from the 1974 film „Young Frankenstein“ by John Morris. This video garnered over 30 million views by May 2011. Another YouTube user, cregets, re-uploaded the same clip on June 19th, 2007, which also received over 29 million views.
The video quickly spread across the internet. By June 20th, 2007, multiple versions were being reblogged, and YouTube saw an explosion of Dramatic Chipmunk-related videos, including duplicates and remixes. The video appeared on various websites like College Humor, I Am Bored, BoingBoing, and ComedyCentral. GigaOm’s Mathew Ingram recognized the Dramatic Chipmunk as a meme. In 2007, People Magazine named it one of „The 10 Wildest YouTube Stars of the Year.“ BustedTees, CollegeHumor’s T-shirt retailer, even released a T-shirt featuring the Dramatic Chipmunk.
The footage inspired a series of GIF animations and re-enactments by various YouTubers, including internet personalities like iJustin, Veronica Belmont, and Drew Olanoff. In February 2010, Funny Or Die presented a re-enactment by Justin Bieber, which received over 6 million views by May 2011. The video has also been remixed in numerous ways, including mash-ups with other memes like „This is Sparta“ and „Star Wars Kid.“

TASo there I am… minding my business… sipping my respectable morning coffee like a functioning adult… when someone hits me with the most loaded question of the century: “Hey, want to go day drinking?”
And suddenly, in my head, the camera pans. The music swells. That DUN DUN DUUUUUN from the Dramatic Chipmunk video plays at full volume. Because my life? It’s basically a five-second viral meme from 2007 every time someone mentions bottomless mimosas before noon.
Do I want to go? Oh, sweet child, this isn’t a want. This is destiny calling. This is the point in the Marvel movie where the hero stares into the middle distance, contemplating the moral weight of their choices, and then does the most chaotic thing possible because it’ll be funny later.
But I have to pretend, for like… three seconds… that I’m above it all. That I have “self-control” and “responsibilities” and “hydration goals.” So I squint dramatically, tilt my head like the chipmunk, and whisper things like, “Oh… I don’t know… I have things to do…” when we all know my to-do list starts with Sauvignon Blanc and ends with making bad decisions in broad daylight.
Because here’s the thing: day drinking isn’t just drinking. It’s a sport. It’s a lifestyle. It’s watching the sun set at 6pm while wondering why you already feel like you lived three entire lives before dinner. It’s bonding with strangers at the next table over your mutual bad choices and then following each other on Instagram like you’re gonna be in each other’s weddings.
So yes… I’ll go day drinking. I’ll go dramatically. I’ll go with the confidence of a meme rodent who has seen the abyss and chosen chaos anyway. Because life is short, wine is cheaper before 5pm, and my legacy will not be built on saying no to bottomless mimosas.
