TH✨Drawer Box Tutorial✨
I hope this tutorial helps you to build your own drawer boxes for all of your projects. They really are simple to make, even if you are just starting out. If you don’t have a table saw, your circular saw can do the trick too.
Here is all of the important information.
Hardware: The drawers I made are to fit the Blum Tandem Plus Blumotion drawer slides. These really are the best undermount, soft close, drawer slides and the ones you should be using anyway. ::)
Drawer Material: 1/2 birch plywood (1/4” birch plywood for drawer bottom)
Drawer Height: Take the height of your drawer opening (in the cabinet) and subtract 1,25’. That should be your drawer box height.
Drawer Length: The length is determined by the length of your drawer. These come in 15”, 18”, 21”, 24”, etc, lengths. So, if you are using 18” drawer slides, then your length should be 18”.
Drawer Width: Measure the width of your inner cabinet box opening and subtract 5/8”. This will be your outer drawer box width measurement. Since your front and back drawer box pieces fit between your side pieces, you need to subtract the material width as well to figure out what size you should cut those pieces. Ex: If your inner cabinet box opening is 15”, then you would subtract 1 5/8” (5/8” for the glides and 1” for the 1/2” thick pllywwod sides. So your front and back pieces should be cut to 13 3/8”.
