Not that there are many of those in the Midwest, but more often than not you’re gonna be casting into wide rivers or lakes. Most of the time in those bodies of water, you’ve gotta get some distance under your line.
So what’s the fix?
Breaking the rules of casting: elbow in, don’t break the wrist, 10 and 2…
Long back and forth, wide open shoulders, still keeping the rod tip in a straight line…those get you started to casting further, but there’s one other thing that makes all the difference.
The double haul…
Stripping line out as your cast forward and backwards, perfectly timed, perfectly executed. Those little strips pull the line closer to the rod, adding tension and speeding up your overall cast…and you notice this as soon as you get it down.
The double haul is life changing, learn it…
