I honestly don’t even know why i’m so sensitive to light and noise when i’m trying to sleep but @mantasleep has genuinely helped me and they’re so damn comfortable! Everyone thinks better sleep hygiene is the answer. I used to think that too. I had an index card with exact times for when to dim the lights, turn off screens, get into bed. I followed it perfectly. And if anything got delayed by 30 minutes, I'd panic. Like my night was already ruined. The ironic part? Even doing everything right, it didn't work. I still didn't sleep well. Now I see this same advice in every insomnia group. People suggesting better sleep hygiene, getting off electronics earlier, optimizing more. But for chronic insomnia, that's not the issue. The fear and pressure are. When you go to bed night after night scared you're going to lose more sleep, scared you're going to struggle, your brain starts to think you're in danger. Sleep hygiene becomes another way you're trying to make sleep happen, which keeps your brain stuck in danger mode. Sleep isn't as complicated as we make it. Your brain doesn't need more structure. It needs to feel safe again so tht sleep can return naturally.
