STFirst impressions of the DWARF Mini 🔭✨
These are my first images with it: the Rosette Nebula, the Sun, and M81/M82 — and I’m honestly impressed (and surprised!) by how much this small scope can do for its size and price.
I used 30-second exposures for the deep sky objects, and the tracking was very good, especially for a compact, ultra-portable system. The Mini uses a 30 mm f/5 refractor, and the software is intuitive, making setup quick and straightforward. Being able to run everything from inside the house on cold nights is a huge plus.
There are limitations, which are expected at this price point. The small sensor limits resolution and heavy cropping, and there’s no way to rotate the frame for precise framing. I’m also still getting used to the in-app processing, so these images were processed externally in PixInsight.
For context, my usual astrophotography setups cost thousands of dollars, so expectations matter. Taken for what it is, the DWARF Mini feels like a solid entry point into astrophotography and a very capable grab-and-go option. I would previously tell people you need to spend a minimum of $2000 to get into the hobby, but now a scope like this seems like an obvious way to start out.
