Rapunzel dreams of seeing the floating lanterns that appear in the sky every year on her birthday. One day, a wanted thief named Flynn Rider (real name Eugene) hides in her tower. Rapunzel makes a deal with him—she’ll return his stolen bag if he takes her to see the lanterns. This begins an adventurous journey outside the tower, where Rapunzel experiences the real world for the first time.
Along the way, they are chased by royal guards, thugs from a pub, and Mother Gothel. Rapunzel slowly discovers the truth about her past — she is actually the lost princess of the kingdom, kidnapped as a baby because of her magical hair.
In the end, Eugene sacrifices himself to save Rapunzel, breaking the power of her hair. Rapunzel’s tears heal him, Mother Gothel loses her youth and disappears, and Rapunzel reunites with her real parents, the king and queen. Eugene gives up his old life, and they fall in love.
It’s a fun, emotional story about freedom, identity, courage, and love, with great songs and comedy.
