ELShort eared owl; my first!
In just over 10 years, I have attempted to mount several of these striking owls. Every one that has come to me has been unsuitable. I can’t properly explain the disappointment that I felt having to discard these hard to come by and special birds each time.
When I took this bird out of the freezer, I had already convinced myself that it would too, suffer the same fate. But finally, my first short eared owl. This lovely owl will be situated in a diorama of vibrant mauve heather, reminiscent of the landscape of their core breeding range - the open rough country of northern england and scotland where they favour heather moorlands.
