MAIf someone told you an ECV or cesarean was your ONLY safe option for a breech baby — that wasn’t the whole truth.
The reason most hospitals “don’t allow” vaginal breech birth isn’t because it’s automatically more dangerous.
�It’s often because providers no longer have the training or experience to confidently support it.
And here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:
EVERY option carries risk.
ECV (External Cephalic Version) — manually turning baby — can include risks like:�• Premature rupture of membranes�• Placental abruption�• Umbilical cord compression or entanglement�• Fetal distress
Cesarean birth carries its own risks too:�• Hemorrhage�• Infection�• Breathing challenges for baby�• Increased likelihood of repeat cesarean or risks in future pregnancies
There is no completely risk-free way to bring a baby earthside.
This is why doulas advocate for individualized, informed care — not one-size-fits-all protocols.
I’ve supported moms with breech babes through ECVs, planned cesareans, and vaginal breech births.
�In every category, some unfolded smoothly. Others unfortunately required emergency care.
My role is never to lead a mother toward MY preference —�but to help her understand her options, regulate her nervous system, ask better questions, so she can fully trust her intuition.
Because birth is not just a medical event.�It’s a rite of passage.
And each woman must choose the path she can walk with peace.
