For students who struggle with these skills, direct instruction is necessary to help them understand how and when to use them. 1. Use “think-alouds”: Narrate your own thought process when planning a lesson, solving a problem, or managing an emotion. This gives students a concrete example of how to apply these skills. 2. Practice with real scenarios: Use real-life situations to discuss problem-solving. For an older student example, discuss how a student could manage their time to study for a test and still attend a social event. 3. Encourage self-reflection: Periodically ask students to reflect on their own behaviors. For instance, “What was distracting you during that lesson, and how can you refocus next time?”. A lot of this work is SEL focused — so you can connect this instruction within any of your core instruction, during morning circle, or during 1-on-1 student conversations. #teacherlife #thesidesofteaching #dayinthelifeofateacher #teacher #teachersofig #teachersofinstagram #teachertips #executivefunctioning #classroommanagement

Everybody knows that keeping an audience engaged during a presentation is harder than it looks. It’s not just about having great content; it’s about how you lead the room in real time. Here are 3 simple moves I use when I’m hosting big conferences to keep people with me from start to finish: ✅ Set the tone early (tell them it’s interactive) ✅ Build engagement into your plan (design moments for participation) ✅ Check the pulse as you go (quick questions keep the room alive) Bonus (the one most people underestimate): lead with more energy than feels “normal.” Your audience takes cues from you. If you come in measured and quiet, they’ll stay passive. But when you show up a notch higher—clear, warm, and animated—you give the room permission to meet you there. ✨Share this with someone who needs to give a presentation, introduction or speaking engagement.

Here's one of the most overlooked presentation techniques I've seen in 23 years of live events. Human beings hold time in a line in their heads. And the direction matters. A lot. When I present, I reverse my timeline so it matches my audience's perspective, not mine. Here's why: Act One: Here's where my client was (the problem) Act Two: Here's what we did together (the journey) Act Three: Here's where they are now (the transformation) I physically move with the story. I show progression. I take them on a journey. Most presenters face their own timeline. They talk from where they stand, not from where their audience stands. That's backwards. This is one of those "slight edge" principles. It's small. It's powerful. And it shows you think from your client's perspective, not your own. It's the difference between good presentations and unforgettable ones. #presentationskills #publicspeaking #storytelling #speakingtips #expertmindset

If you struggle to organize your ideas for a presentation, this McKinsey-backed approach will save you. It’s called the Dot–Dash Method, and it helps you structure presentations that actually influence decisions. Here’s how it works: The Dots are your main points, one per slide. The Dashes are the data or facts that prove each point. Start by listing all your Dots and Dashes in a document. Then check: ✔ Vertical logic, every Dash directly supports its Dot. ✔ Horizontal logic, each Dot flows naturally into the next. This gives you a clear, persuasive storyline that feels effortless, the kind used by top consulting firms. And when you pair it with the SCR storytelling framework, you’ll look like an expert every time you present. If you want my Dot–Dash template to start building storylines like this, comment “DOT” and I’ll send it to you. #presentationskills #communicationskills #worktips

It’s about trying something new, that you cannot get wrong. It’s about connecting with other women while collaborating on something creative. It’s about rediscovering creativity and expression. But most of all, it’s about pressure-free play and allowing yourself to be truly present. To learn more about how you can take part, or host your own version of this, make sure you sign up to my mailing list via the link in bio. Try this when telling a story. “What do I do with my hands when I’m presenting” is something every speaking or presentation coach tries to tackle. Unfortunately, they usually make people look like idiots. There’s a way to look natural AND funny AND charismatic at the same time and it is ABSOLUTELY NOT the “power hands stance” or “opening your palms to the front of the room”. Prepare yourself for Charisma Hand Flashbacks. Comment “meetings” to get the free guide 👇🏼 I can get a bit ranty about meetings. It's not that they're bad, it's just that the default-to-a-meeting culture is killing us all 🫠. I've been using @use_loom for about a year now to replace/shorten a bunch of my meetings, so I'm stoked to be an #AtlassianPartner and bring you this free guide. I still use emails, Slack, comments in docs, phone calls, in-person and zoom meetings for sure, but I'm finding async video is a new comms channel I've added to the mix and I'm finding I use it more about more. Has made working with my agencies and VAs so much faster, with l as back and forth / mistakes. Note on meeting outcomes: live-time for teams to build psychological safety, trust and social bonds is really important. So that in itself, can be an outcome. Lots of ways to do that outside of a meeting room too though 😆 #atlassianpartner #ad #meetings #corporate #asynccommunication #worktips
