After 6 seconds swap the arms. - Focus point: Rotation and arm position. Practice the rotated position by submerging the top shoulder underwater. Some athletes prefer keeping the head closer to the block, while many today choose a slightly farther setup. Both can work โ€” but the real secret is the hips: always high, lifted, and away from the wall. This reduces the risk of slipping off the wall, the biggest fear of every backstroker. After the launch, the head leads, followed by the arms and torso, aiming for a higher flight and then driving the body back with an explosion. The goal: throw the hips high, so the entire body enters the water through the same hole, clean and friction-free. Finish by kicking the feet upward for a perfect, streamlined entry.
