This happens to me from time to time, and it’s a great way to test the eggs especially if you’re in the middle of making a recipe 🙈🙃 Here is how to perform this floating egg test. Gently place your egg into a bowl of water. If the egg sinks, it is fresh. If it tilts upwards or even floats, it is old. This happens because as eggs age, the small air pockets inside it grow larger as water is released and replaced by air. If the air pocket becomes large enough, the egg may float. **Please keep in mind that by cracking an egg open, sniffing it, and checking for discoloration is a really precise method of determining freshness. I’m quite partial to a 8 minute jammy egg. 👌Learn how to boil eggs (both soft boiled and hard boiled) so they turn out perfectly every time. My approach is super easy and allows you to cook a variety of eggs for the entire family – all in one pot together! THE COLD WATER APPROACH IS FLAWED 🤷‍♀️ When it comes to boiling eggs there’s no shortage of tutorials online. And guess what? They’re all pretty similar (i.e. add eggs to a pot of cold water, bring it to a boil, turn off the heat and cook the eggs until they’re hard boiled). My cooking method: 🤌Just bring a pot of water to a boil with enough water to cover the eggs by about an inch. By boiling the water first, it also doesn’t matter which type of pot you use as the eggs only hit the water once it’s boiling: 212°F (100°C). ⏱️As soon as the eggs are in the water set a timer. And cook the eggs according to how soft or hard you’d like them. ❄️Place the eggs in an ice-water bath. Once the eggs have reached your desired time, immediately place them in an ice water bath to stop them from cooking and maintain your perfect texture. ✅Allow the eggs to warm up. As you’re waiting for water to boil, don’t forget to take the eggs out of the fridge to let them sit on the counter. This will allow them to come to room temperature. ✅Reduce the heat to low. This is important. Reduce the heat to low while slowly placing the eggs in the hot water. The water should not be boiling or bubbling. SPOILER! No this isn’t a baking soda or vinegar trick and both fresh and old eggs work for this recipe We go through so many eggs in our house and hard boiled eggs are an easy lunch for our daughter. Hard boiled eggs are perfect to munch on before a workout or add them to any salad for an extra protein kick. I learned this trick from Gordon Ramsey and one of his easy ramen recipes. How long to boil your eggs will depend on if you want a soft or hard yolk. Start by boiling a pot of water. Once the water is at a rolling boil, add your eggs with a spoon, slowly. You don’t want to eggs to fall to the bottom of the pot because they will crack. Now, the trick here is to let your water come to a slow boil and not a rolling boil. This will help the membrane around the egg to soften and separate rather than stick to it. This is how the shell just peels off without sticking! Softly boil for about 12 minutes (less if you want a runny yolk) and than drain and place in an ice bath. You’ll have perfectly peeled hard boiled eggs! It’s that easy. Eggs are a great source of protein and is loaded with Selenium, B vitamins and vitamin D. There has been a huge narrative around eggs raising cholesterol levels and increasing risk of heart disease. However, recent research has found that it actually does the opposite effect! Look for organic, pasture raised eggs for the highest quality and richest vitamins and minerals.
