I’ve been waiting for the results from genetic testing and when I finally got the call, it felt like the floor was falling. I’m very grateful to have one healthy embryo after all of this, and I don’t take that for granted, but for some reason I had it in my head that I was going to get different news. I’m fine- I’m just being honest about my reaction. I’m both relieved to be able to schedule a transfer attempt and devastated to know I only get one chance. I’m trying to remind myself to be grateful that I’ve spared myself from so many more certain pregnancy losses. Anyway, I promised to share updates in real time, so this is where we are: Today I’ll be sad about the results. It was kind of a shock to me, but many of us learn the hard way that it’s all about quality, not quantity. After my last cycle, which ultimately yielded one single embryo and resulted in a devastating miscarriage for me, I was overjoyed to learn that I have 3 embryos this time. Fertility Update: I decided to delay my egg retrieval at @springfertility to get ideal results A few months ago, I shared with you all that I had partnered with Spring to explore doing a retrieval and freeze of eggs or embryos - what I learned after several months of scheduling and working closely with my expert care team of doctors and nurses is that fertility can be complicated, and good things take time! The uniqueness of my goals and unpredictable schedule as an entertainer (traveling from city to city to state to country at the beck and call of each gig) made it difficult for me to find an extended period of time where I would be home and able to be monitored by the team. My tests also revealed some perfectly normal complications from medicine that I take - so I’ll be making a few changes before returning to the ultrasound table next year. Egg retrieval is sold as a procedure. A step in the process. Something you go in for, come out of, and then wait. What they don’t fully prepare you for is what it actually looks like on the other side of it. Watching Eleanor come round after each retrieval, seeing what her body had just been through, the discomfort, the exhaustion, the way she’d try to reassure me she was fine when she clearly wasn’t, that never got easier. Not once. And I think that’s the part that doesn’t get talked about enough from the partner’s side. You are not going through it physically. But you are watching someone you love go through something really hard, round after round, and there is almost nothing you can do except be there. That helplessness has a weight to it. You want to fix it. You want to take some of it from her. You want to do something useful. And mostly you just sit there and hold her hand and tell her she’s incredible, because she is, and because it’s the only thing you have. Eleanor went through this more times than anyone should have to. Every single time she got back up and did it again. Round 2 results so far! I’m not going to lie I’m a little bummed that we still aren’t getting more mature follicles. We had better numbers last round BUT… 1. My doctor purposely didn’t retrieve immature follicles to prevent OHSS which is why we retrieved less this round. 2. Last round only 4 eggs were mature at the time of retrieval. This time all 9 were. So we’re hoping to have a higher blast rate 🙏🏼 We’re praying to get a lot of blasts and PGTA normal embryos. But the realist in me is already prepping for round 3️⃣ 😅😭 #ttc #ivf #ivfjourney #eggretrieval #fertilityjourney

Preparing myself for the attrition in the coming days, starting with a phone call tomorrow to let me know how many of these eggs were mature, and how many fertilized. (And then next week, how many survived 5 days to the blastocyst stage. And then a week after THAT, how many of those embryos came back from testing as genetically healthy & potentially viable.)
