What a relief! We’ve got another Claude Monet project coming your way! My students rotated through painting stations to build every part of this project. Bouquet. Roses. Vase. Background. Each piece inspired by Monet’s soft colors and brushstrokes. Once everything was painted, students cut out their pieces and assembled them onto the background. The secret to the 3D effect? Tiny scraps of cardboard between each layer. Suddenly the flowers pop right off the page and the whole piece becomes a relief sculpture. It’s painting, collage, and sculpture all in one lesson and students love seeing their work literally come to life. Tempera sticks are such a classroom win when you want the experience of painting without brushes and pouring out paint. In this K-5 art lesson plan, cut a simple stencil edge. Then, with the help of an everyday wet wipe, the class will make overlapping colors and create new blends and patterns. Students will glide the colors along the edge and watch the dazzling shapes take form! It’s easy to set up, fun to explore, and the cleanup is quick. After spring break my kindergarten art students will be starting this lesson that was such a hit last year! @cassie_stephenz does it again 🤩. I love this book, and kindergarten is obsessed with Larry the Line already so I am so excited for them to meet Alfred. This is one of their first explorations into fully planning their composition from start to finish so I can’t wait to see what they come up with. I realized recently how much we need to practice cutting and gluing 😮‍💨🙈🥲 so cheers to collage! If you want the demo video comment SHAPES and I’ll send it your way ❤️. I still have so many shape stickers from last year, so they definitely didn’t use them all. Wait till you see what our painted recycled papers become. 🌸 Inspired by artist Emma Collins from @emmacollinsworkshops these colorful patterned papers were transformed into layered flowers full of movement, texture, and spring energy. Using simple petal templates, a circular base, curled edges, and a fringed center, our painted papers got the prettiest glow-up. I've seen people talking about neurographic drawing and more, so I decided to give it a try! Of course, I approached it from the I-teach-kids angle so I wanted to figure out a way to make it playful. Enter: toys. So, instead of just drawing lines, push a toy around your paper. Add curves to the intersections (or don't 😉). Add color with your favorite media, and boom! 🙃 After trying myself, I offered it as the "Weekly Challenge" last week for my online kiddos, because it really is a great option for those who aren't sure or who need an entry point. 🐍 1st grade “snakes in the grass” weavings (created for our Glow Gallery!) Students created a grassy texture on their papers with neon oil pastels and tempera cakes. They created a pattern using @kwikstixpaint on @astrobrights paper. They cut their grass paper into a loom, cut their pattern into snake body strips, glued on a head and got to weaving! For the finishing touch, they cut some painted papers left over from a previous project into skinny strips and slid them behind their snakes.
