the pride season is officially over and the results are in: “the number of U.S. brands using pride-related hashtags on instagram declined 16% year-over-year, while interactions fell 73% this year compared to 2020 when engagement peaked” - @kyurieff via @theinformation via the @emplifi report. so what is happening here? well…my take-away is that using rainbow colours and imagery in branding and campaigns no longer leads to any results if companies want to indicate progressive support for LGBTQ community or any diverse community, and earn credibility…they should be more honest about their involvement in social causes. and rainbow filters no longer equate to actual involvement in social causes… in 1990, having a rainbow logo would be…A HUGE step, you know - when everybody frowns upon it, you risk losing customers by supporting pride. but now - it means nothing because everybody does it? perhaps it’s good if not all brands go #pride…because it creates less noise. less noise makes it easier to see brands that are, the real deal. you know, Apple for example - they founded their first LGBT employee group as far back as 1986. 1986!!! and they are one of the first major corporations to provide benefits to same-sех partners of its employees. today, their CEO, Tim Cook is one of the most prominent openly gay business leaders. nobody sees any of this because ALL BRANDS have rainbow and play the rainbow game once a year but at the same time, maybe it’s okay if pride becomes a national themed holiday and people do indeed change logos without doing any real help to the community. mmm don’t know. it’s not like I have a degree in sociology or human rights or queer history to make a solid conclusion. but what do you think? let me know what you think in the comments to continue the discussion x #comedy #funny #pride
