Friday English Fix TGIF! 💃💃 Let’s correct some common mistakes. 1️⃣ I discussed about it. ❌ I discussed it. ✅ The verb discuss does not need the preposition about. We discussed about the problem.❌ We discussed the problem.✅ This is a very common mistake even among educated speakers. 2️⃣ She requested for a pen. ❌ She requested a pen. ✅ When request is used as a verb, it does not take the preposition “for.” This is because “request” already means “ask for something formally.” Adding “for” becomes unnecessary. However, when request is used as a noun, the preposition “for” is correct. Examples: She made a request for a pen. They submitted a request for permission. So the rule is simple: Verb: request something (no “for”) Noun: request for something 3️⃣ I emphasised on the point. ❌ I emphasised the point. ✅ Emphasise already carries the meaning of giving importance. It does not require on. The teacher emphasised on discipline.❌ The teacher emphasised discipline.✅ 4️⃣ Return back the book. ❌ Return the book. ✅ Return already means “give back.” Adding back is unnecessary repetition. It is like saying “repeat again.” If this corrected you, type: MORE GRAMMAR LESSONS Tag someone who needs this gently. Are you making this mistake? 🤔 If English is your second language, it feels so natural to say “I am agree.” Why? Because in many languages, this phrase is a “state of being”—like a feeling or a description. But in English, Agree is a Power Verb! 🚀 Think of it like the verb “to eat” or “to go.” You don’t say “I am eat,” right? You just say “I eat.” So next time you want to show support for an idea, keep it simple and powerful: I agree. ✅ Save this for your next English conversation! 📌 #EnglishTips #LearnEnglish #CommonMistakes #ESL #EnglishGrammar Shorts
