But it's all mechanically enforced. Swash plates and linkage gearboxes actively control the pitch of each rotor independently, varying angles in real time based on speed, yaw, and roll. The two discs are phase-locked at the gearbox. They cannot collide. The reason for all this complexity: a conventional tail rotor burns 10 to 25% of engine power just to stop the fuselage from spinning, contributing nothing to lift. The K-MAX eliminates it entirely. Counter-rotating rotors cancel torque by design, and every horsepower goes straight to the hook. Same engine as a Bell 205. Nearly twice the external lift, up to 6,000 pounds from an airframe that itself weighs 5,150.
