Hickstead: A Legend in Show Jumping 🌟
On March 2, 1996, in Belgium, a bay Dutch Warmblood colt was born who would one day become one of the greatest show jumping horses in history — Hickstead. Standing 16 hands high, Hickstead’s power, agility, and fiery spirit made him an icon in the equestrian world.
With Canadian rider Eric Lamaze, Hickstead rose to international fame:
🏆 2007 – Winner of the $1 Million CN International at Spruce Meadows, plus a record four Queen Elizabeth II Cup titles.
🥈🥉 2007 Pan Am Games – Team silver and individual bronze.
🥇🥈 2008 Beijing Olympics – Canada’s first-ever individual Olympic gold in equestrian, alongside a team silver.
🌍 2010 World Equestrian Games – Crowned “Best Horse in the World” after four faultless rounds with four different riders in the Rolex Top Four Final.
🏆 2010 Rolex Grand Prix (Aachen) – Victorious in one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions.
🏆 2011 – Hickstead and Lamaze won the $1 Million CN International for a second time.
💔 On November 6, 2011, Hickstead tragically passed away after a round in Verona, Italy, leaving behind a legacy that still inspires riders and horse lovers worldwide.
