You CAN grow what you want… I have always LOVED Rhododendron and dreamt of having one in my garden but I never had the right soil! Did you know that you can create the perfect soil for your acid loving plants by adding the right compost. You might have heard of or seen Ericaceous compost but not really known what it is! Well it’s the magic ingredient for acid loving plants. When I added my Rhododendron to the garden we dug a big hole, filled it with ericaceous compost and then annually I mulch it with it as well! I have researched that if you’re wanting to change the colour of a hydrangea from pink to blue then adding the compost will help with that too 🙌🏼. @growmoorbettergrowing kindly gifted me this one to try for its annual mulch! Composting made easy 🌱 I use a sprinkler valve in each corner of my raised garden boxes. I fill them with kitchen scraps and let the decomposers in my soil do the rest. Each corner becomes its own self-feeding compost system (it's actually called Vermicomposting) — no turning, no pile, no extra work. When one valve is full, I move to the next corner. It takes a couple of weeks to break down, so by the time I circle back, it’s ready for more scraps. ✨ Don’t overthink composting. Do what works for your garden and what’s easiest for your setup. If you've grabbed yourself one of these £5 hydrangeas from @bm_stores here are some top tips for helping it thrive! 1. Plant it in a partially sunny/shady spot 🌤️ 2. Mix in some ericaceous compost as they prefer slightly acidic soil 🪏 3. You can pot them up, just make sure you use a pot that's spacious 🪴 4. No turning. No hauling. No waiting months for a pile to “finish.” Now I have ready-to-use compost in weeks. This is what changed everything for me: When food scraps go straight into the soil, they break down where the microbes, worms, and roots already live. The soil does the work. I just… get out of the way. I dig a small hole. I bury the scraps. I cover it back up. And I move on with my life. No smells. No pests. No half-rotted pile freezing all winter. Just richer soil, healthier plants, and beds that literally feed themselves. This is composting without the middleman. This is soil building in real time. This is what low-effort gardening actually looks like. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by compost rules, bins, ratios, or timelines, you’re not doing it wrong. You were just taught the hardest version first. I break down exactly how I do this, what I bury, where I bury it, and how it works in real backyard gardens. Comment COMPOST

No gatekeeping here! You can have beautiful compost like this for free without turning, watering, or monitoring the temperature. Here’s the secret… Girl, there’s no secret! Just start. Start by picking a place and dumping your household scraps in a pile. At my house it’s just some repurposed pallets that we throw our egg shells, coffee grounds, chick bedding, grill ashes, and anything else the animals don’t want to eat. Yes, that’s an animal bone in there! The only time I’ve ever turned this compost bin was last season when I dug out compost. I’ve never watered it and I’ve definitely never monitored the temperature. This is the set it and forget it lazy girl compost method. Because I don’t have time for all that but I NEED compost that doesn’t cost an arm and leg for my garden. And I hate throwing things in the trash. If you really want to turn your compost & monitor it like a science project, go right ahead. You’ll probably get there quicker, but if you’re not making compost because it seems like a daunting task. I’m here to tell you can do it. 💪 Try out the lazy girl set it and forget it method. Let me know if you’re ready to tackle composting now in the comments. I’ll be rolling out more gardening tips over the next couple of weeks. ⬇️ How to make Liquid Compost Make your own fermented liquid by breaking down food waste in dechlorinated water using anaerobic beneficial microbes. This brew feeds soil life and works beautifully alongside compost & mulch. What you need: 🍌 Fruit & vegetable scraps. Soft scraps work best. Avoid meat, dairy and oils if you are new to this 💧 Dechlorinated water. Let tap water sit 12 to 24 hours or use rainwater 🌾 Bokashi bran or liquid EM (EM-1 type) 🫙 An airtight container with a lid. 🪨 A weight, rock, or plate to keep scraps submerged. Optional but very helpful Step 1. Prepare your water Fill your container with water and let it sit for 12 to 24 hours so chlorine can off gas. Rainwater is ideal if you have access to it Step 2. Add food scraps Chop scraps into small pieces. Fill the container about one third to one half full with scraps. Step 3. Add your EM source -Bokashi bran option. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons per litre of water -Liquid EM option. Add 1 to 2 ml per litre of water -Stir gently to distribute Step 4. Fully submerge & seal -Top up with water so all scraps are fully covered - Push scraps down to remove any trapped air -Seal the container airtight. Anaerobic (oxygen-free) conditions are essential Step 5. Fermentation time -Leave sealed for 7 to 14 days -Store out of direct sun at around 15 to 30°C -Do not open daily. Oxygen slows fermentation Signs it is working: -A sour, sweet, pickled smell -Cloudy liquid -Softened or collapsing scraps ⚠️Things to look out for: -A white film or yeast is normal -Black slime or a putrid smell means anaerobic failure- too much air has gotten in. Compost the contents and start again -Mould above the liquid means scraps were exposed to air Straining & storage: -Strain the liquid when ready -Use within 24 to 48 hours for best microbial activity -The remaining scraps can go into a soil trench, compost pile or Bokashi bin How to use it in the garden: 💧 General soil drench. Dilute at 1:100. That is 10 ml per litre of water 🌱 Delicate plants or seedlings. Dilute at 1:200 🚫 Never use undiluted on soil or plants 🎥 Original video from @sutheaphnoorunp

My garden didn’t start thriving because I bought better compost. It started thriving when I removed the compost bin entirely. I stopped treating compost like a separate project and started letting the garden do the work. Here’s what changed everything for me 👇 🌱 Burying compost Kitchen scraps go straight into the soil where they’ll be used. No turning. No waiting months. No hauling bins around. The soil feeds itself exactly where plants need it. 🌱 Annual cover crops Instead of bare soil, I let plants protect it. Roots hold moisture, feed microbes, and quietly improve structure while I do absolutely nothing. 🌱 Green manure Plants aren’t just for harvesting. Some are grown just to be returned to the soil. They grow. They photosynthesize. They build biomass. Then they go right back where they came from. 🌱 Chop and drop Nothing leaves the garden anymore. Stems, leaves, spent plants, all become mulch and food for the soil. It’s recycling, but lazier and more effective. Once I stopped outsourcing soil health to a bin, everything shifted. Better moisture retention. Stronger plants. Less work. Fewer inputs. And the wild part? The soil started improving faster. No perfect system. No one right way. Just working with decomposition instead of managing it. If you’re curious how I actually do this in a real backyard without overthinking it, I wrote it all down. Comment COMPOST

No matter your garden size, I recommend dedicating a proportional amount of space to compost making, because homemade compost is the most VALUABLE thing you can ever grow and harvest! Compost improves soil by adding nutrients, improving soil structure, water retention and inoculates your soil with LIFE - happy microbe friends that work hard every day to improve soil and plant health. Compost helps almost every any soil problem - clay soils, sandy soils, compacted soils, lifeless soils, nutrition-less soils.. Fill your compost bins/tumbler/bays with a balance of dry stuff and wet stuff, and watch magic get made right in your backyard!! #permaculturegarden #permaculturegardening #composting #compostbin #abcmygarden

No compost bin? Don’t worry. Hey, I don’t take compost to the garden — I make compost in the garden. This in-ground composting system is just a milk crate + a hole in the ground. Kitchen scraps go straight into the soil, where worms, microbes, and roots do the work for me. 🌱No hauling. 🌱No turning 🌱No space for a traditional compost bin required. If you’re gardening in a small space, raised beds, or just want a low-effort composting method, this is one of the easiest ways to build healthy soil right where you’re growing food 🌿Save this for later & share with a friend who’s compost-curious #ingroundcomposting #gardenhacks #smallspacegardening compostingmadeeasy soilhealth

#AD 🌿 Reencle is the one true kitchen-to-garden composter that makes finished compost without odors inside your home. 👉 Comment 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 and I’ll send you more info. Several weeks ago, I got my new Reencle. It’s an indoor composter that transforms kitchen scraps and food waste into finished compost in as little as twenty-one days. It uses very little electricity, has no odors, and you can add up to 2.2 lbs (1 kg) of food waste per day. That includes waste that is challenging to compost, such as meat, eggs, fish, dairy, and other cooked food. I can also see it being handy for those who live in apartments and for winter composting. After the composter is full, you scoop some out, mix it with soil, and use it in the garden or containers. From food waste to compost to more food… LOVE it! #reencle #organicgarden #zerowaste #compost #zerowasteliving #composting #urbangarden #urbangardening
