Guardians of the Highlands — The Wii Towai Tribe 🌿✨ High in the untouched mountains of Papua New Guinea, the Wii Towai Tribe lives where clouds kiss the jungle canopy. Their world is one of spirit and survival — vibrant masks, sacred dances, and ancient chants that echo through time. Each ritual honors the balance between people and nature, a reminder that identity can thrive even at the edge of the modern world. A glimpse into a culture few have seen… yet one that still beats with the rhythm of the earth. 🌏🔥 #WiiTowaiTribe #PapuaNewGuinea #TribalCulture #AncientTraditions #IndigenousPeoples #CulturalHeritage #TribalLife #HiddenWorlds #Ethnography #LostTribes #CulturalExploration #fyp #explorepage #tribe

When I say ethnographic interviews, I don’t mean anything fancy or intimidating. I mean real conversations — listening to families’ stories, routines, strengths, and realities in their own words, not just checking boxes on a form. Not every parent reads fluently. Not every family feels safe asking for help. Not every story fits on paper. When we listen first, we learn more — and we serve families better. 🤍 This is about respect, access, and relationship. #LaSLPChingona #SchoolBasedSLP #BilingualSLP #Ethnography #ListenToFamilies #slpgradstudent

Thank you for 100 Million Views, Follow @evolve.insights for more insights ⚡ Deep in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, the young boys of the Banna tribe carry long wooden sticks — not as weapons, but as tools of survival. Known as the “Stick Boys,” they use these sticks to probe the ground ahead, warding off snakes and unseen dangers hiding in the tall grass. In a region teeming with wildlife, this simple yet clever practice keeps them safe during herding and daily travels. But beyond its practicality, the stick has become a symbol of responsibility and maturity, marking the boys’ gradual transition into manhood. Their quiet vigilance and harmony with nature reflect an ancient wisdom — living not against the wild, but alongside it. When I first traveled to Sicily for fieldwork, studying the life and songs of Rosa Balistreri, I was just a curious Texan girl with an Italian name, exploring a centuries-old cradle of multicultural art and beautiful chaos. Poco a poco, I started posting videos—not just of the songs, but of my translations. I shared countless lunches, midnight sing-along sessions, and deep conversations with people who told me incredible stories of their lives on that island. I hoped to share these beautiful texts with people around the world who couldn't speak or understand Sicilian. Now, I am fortunate to have a fan and friend base of over one hundred thousand people intorno al mondo. I’ve released an album full of Sicilian songs in translation and am already planning a huge tour with my booking agent for next year. Every day, I am shipping vinyls out to my fans. I guess what I truly want to say is: Thank you. Thank you for listening to me and for trusting me. If you've ever felt 'in between' two worlds or distant from your roots, I hope these songs can be the bridge that brings you home. Your support is the most incredible gift ❤️ • • • • Original Sicilian song: Rosa canta e cunta by Rosa Balistreri // Video by @postoakstation // full video on YouTube! 📺 #RosaBalistreri #SicilianMusic #FolkMusic #Translation #MusicJourney #Homecoming #Grateful #acoustic #ethnography #ethnomusicology #italiangirl

🥒 Farming when land disappears In Bangladesh, in regions such as Barisal, Gopalganj, Pirojpur and Faridpur, farmland is submerged for several months each year during the monsoon season. To cope with these recurring floods, farmers have developed for centuries a technique known as floating agriculture (dhap chash). The principle is simple and remarkably effective: → build floating beds using aquatic plants like water hyacinth, straw, and plant residues, → grow climbing vegetables on them, including cucumbers, which are well suited to waterlogged environments. Here, the goal is not to drain or control water. It is to move the field onto the river. This method allows food production to continue when soils are unusable, helping ensure local food security in a country where floods are becoming longer and more unpredictable — a trend documented by Bangladeshi agricultural institutions and the FAO. This is not a modern technological innovation. It is long-standing farmer knowledge, brought back to the foreground as water levels rise. 🎥 © VIdéo : @OHID / Grihoabas #agriculture #water #flood #bangladesh #farming #floating #resilience #adaptation #climate #monsoon #cucumber #river #farmland #traditional #knowledge #peasants #subsistence #food #agroecology #innovation #territory #culture #anthropology #ethnography #livingwithwater #sustainability #floodplains #foodsystems #rural #vergersdumonde

Could it be that Krampus and other winter animal-hide costumes are more than festive disguises — that they are ritual embodiments of ancient astrotheological cycles? These rites may have originally marked the winter solstice, when the Sun enters 0° Capricorn/Goat (ruled by Saturn), and the Shrovetide ones the spring equinox, when the Sun enters 0° Aries/Ram (ruled by Mars). It’s possible that these festivals involved the sacrifice of goats and sheep, and that participants wore their skins to symbolically embody the power of these animals and the cosmic forces they represented. Perhaps what was once clear, precise, and deeply meaningful was gradually absorbed into mainstream religions and stripped of its original intent. Constructed calendars and fixed sacred dates may have further eroded their early astrotheological sense. Over the centuries, dates shifted — sometimes due to Julian calendar drift, or in lunar systems wandering across seasons and years — becoming increasingly detached from the Sun’s true motion. In my view, despite these changes, the core symbolism persists: Krampus and other winter animal-hide figures may still enact the liminal forces of life, death, and cosmic order, echoing rituals that once celebrated the Sun’s passage through Capricorn and Aries, the natural cycles, and perhaps the sacrificial power of the animals themselves. #👹 #ognjenispektakel #parkeljni #parkelni #percht #perchten #slovenia #podkoren #kranjskagora #krampus #krampusnacht #krampuslauf #krampusrun #krampusparade #krampus2025 #alpinefolklore #alpinetraditions #alpineculture #culture #mask #masks #traditional #tradition #devil #demon #ethnography #anthropology #visualanthropology #astrotheology

#FlashbackFriday ⌛Famous ethnographer and professor of sociology from The New School of Social Research, Dr. Terry Williams, visited Bergen to discuss the stories behind his new book, “Life Underground.” “As an ethnographer, the way in which you understand the world is to go out into it, and to find everyday people, and get them to tell you their stories,” said Williams. For more than 40 years, Dr. Williams has enlightened both the public and his students about his deep and insightful investigations of challenges and experiences faced by disenfranchised populations within our society. He discussed the methods of how he gained information for the book, and sat down with Bergen President Eric M. Friedman, Ph.D. to answer questions about his processes. #bergencc #learnbelongsucceed #nj #paramus #TerryWilliams #sociology #ethnography #LifeUnderground
