💥🧠READ BELOW⬇️ When it comes to programming your primary exercises, HOW you program it is often more important than WHAT you’re programming.  💥Strength, Hypertrophy, and Technique are all going to have different variables, and realistically, you should be dedicating some time every year to each method.  ⚔️Strength: We want to keep things in the mid range here. 1-5 sets, 3-6 reps, moderate-high rest. Generally speaking, we want to be doing our competition lift, or a close variation (often a disadvantaged variation) 💪Hypertrophy: We want things on the higher end of volume, and with higher intensity. 2-4 hard sets of anywhere from 5-12 reps. Intensity should be high and we should be hitting close to that mechanical failure point each set  Generally, we can incorporate variations that are quite different than the competition lift, depending on what muscle group we want to bring up. 🏋🏿‍♂️Technique: Lower Intensity with a focus on perfection of form. We want high amounts of sets with a low amount of reps, this will allow us to mitigate intra-set fatigue, and focus on perfect execution each rep.  Generally we want to be doing our competition left, but with a pause or tempo thrown in.  🎯Struggling to make progress in the gym? Now $50 off ‼️Exercise Programming Encyclopedia code SAVE50 link bio. The exact programming tool I use to program for all of my athletes & shows you how to program all of the unique exercises I post along with implementing foundational movements for any goal or training level.   Here’s NFL pro @duronharmon on single leg RDL Rows shown to me by @benlaitheasianguy which is great for athletes not only because it targets balance & stability but also because it has direct transfer to athletic activities as you’re targeting oblique slings. That means the contralateral patterns of opposite arm firing into the opposite leg such as during sprinting gets isolated as the lats, glutes, & core work together in one synchronized motion.   Make sure you go barefoot or use barefoot shoes such as @vivobarefoot (code DRJOELXVIVO15) as these have scientifically been shown to improve lower body biomechanics & muscle activation & reduce risk of injury. Also check out their brand new Primus Lite Knit which are insanely comfortable.   This drill is only as effective as the effort & control you choose to apply to the movement. If you rush through this movement, don’t pause each rep in the contracted & stretched positions, and don’t focus on producing perfect alignment from head to toe, this drill will do very little for you other than reinforce sloppy activation patterns. To reap the benefits of this drill requires the athlete to pay very close attention to the smallest details including contralateral knee drive, braced core and abs, tall packed neck & head, straight foot & ankle alignment, 90 degree arm drive (rowing position), & dorsiflexed ankles of the elevated leg. This is best performed using slow eccentric isometrics which in turn helps athlete dial in body mechanics & fine-tune their position using enhanced proprioceptive feedback. Also, happy to announce that all of my athletes including all NFL athletes I worked with on a consistent basis this year had ZERO injuries. The training methods including 90 Deg Eccentric Isometrics are working & changing lives but most importantly God gets all the glory!!   #balance #stability #glutes #hamstrings #fitspo #workouts #fitness

Five simple and very effective strength and conditioning exercises you can do at home. Programming: 50 seconds each exercise, 10 seconds rest. After all these exercises rest for 90 seconds then repeat two more times. That’s a quick 20 minute workout 💪🔥 The goal is constant movement. I do this workout 2-3x per week. Helps with my #jiujitsu. #hiit #hiitworkout #strengthandconditioning #bjjworkout #circuittraining #workout #bodyweightworkout

Abs / core programming over the week! Here’s yet another simple strategy to exercise selection for you When it comes to abs / core training. There are a whole lot of exercises out there. I generally find there are 2 camps of people People who do ZERO abs training… then also people who seem to do absolutely ridiculous levels of endless abs volume. As often with life… the truth or answer generally lies someone more in the middle You dont need endless exercise or to train abs everyday. Ideally, choose a few basic quality movements and get really good at them through repetition When it comes to the abs - aka 6 pack muscles. We want to use spinal flexion. Rolling up the spine is what will shorten the rectus abdominis muscles. This can be achieved by flexing the spine from the ribs down towards the pelvis like a crunch. Or, through rolling the pelvis up to the ribs eg a reverse crunch Both train the abs muscles. A basic strategy I like is using 1 exercise on one day a week. Then the other spinal flexion movement on another day. Then, core work. I like to use an exercise here on another day. Can be a simple plank, or side plank. Can increase the difficulty by adding further stability requirements such as a stir the pot plank on an exercise ball etc or we can also do a Paloff Press for more “anti rotation” work. An example of this structure would be Monday - spinal flexion from rib cage down To pelvis eg a crunch Wednesday - a core focused exercise such as a moving plank or side plank Friday - more spinal flexion but this time opposite end we begin from. Flexing the spine up by bringing the pelvis up towards the rib cage. Eg reverse crunch / hanging leg raises And that’s it. Super simple strategy but also extremely effective Sometimes having a simple structure to your week can make exercise selection way simpler If you want to learn how to train your Abs & core effectively and intelligently… no endless days of 500 rep crunch workouts and gimmicks Link in bio for my program “ NO BS ABS” which has over 100 weeks of abs and core workouts
