Quick test: Open your website on your phone right now. What appears first? If it's a full-screen cookie pop-up with no obvious way to close it... You just failed. And 60% of your visitors are doing exactly what you're about to do: leaving. Here's what they're seeing: "This site uses cookies. Accept all cookies?" Before they've read your headline. Before they've seen what you do. Before they have any reason to trust you. You're demanding something from them before giving them anything. First impression = suspicious, not trustworthy. The fixes take 20 minutes: โ†’ Delay pop-up by 5 seconds minimum โ†’ Make it a footer bar, not a full-screen overlay โ†’ Add a visible X or "Keep browsing" option โ†’ Set a cookie (ironic) to remember their choice โ†’ Test on your actual phone (responsive view lies) Same traffic. Same site. Just fixed the cookie pop-up. Your cookie notice is required by law. Making it user-hostile is not. Stop losing half your traffic over a compliance message you implemented once and never tested.

Until I noticed myself actually reading ones from a few brands that had decided that, actually, why should we neglect this space? I mean, it is prime real estate for showing the person on your page who you are. Itโ€™s the NO 1 thing that someone sees when they land on a website these days. Because it pops up so fast that you canโ€™t actually read anything else behind it until youโ€™ve clicked accept or reject. And Iโ€™ve been collecting these funny little banners the way some people collect postcards - yep, I realise this is way more depressing than a sunny place youโ€™ve adventured to, but I do also collect those ๐Ÿซฃ My students in my course Tone Up will all say that there are HEAPS of examples of micro copy from brands of all shapes and sizes, so I thought Iโ€™d give you a glimpse of some of them in this reel ๐Ÿ˜˜ Anyway, over to you guys: are they one of the most wasted opportunities on your websiteโ€ฆ?
