First experiment with the Halldorophone! @halldorophone There are four main strings that can each be controlled in volume separately (controls on the side) and then there are four ‘sympathetic’ strings that can also be controlled. Here I have tuned these strings to the main strings but not in the same order. In this session I am letting the strings feedback then controlling them using harmonics and ricochet. It’s almost the opposite of an acoustic stringed instrument in that the instrument is making sound already and you kind of have to work with suppressing the sound rather than exclusively producing it. Acoustic music is a constant, living pulse. Sounds are created in real time thanks to the vibrations of air molecules excited by the specific behavior of instruments and those who play them. Electronic music, although precise, is often based on programmed loops or samples which, until set in motion by touch, automation, or modulation, do not change dynamically, giving the impression of staticity and predictability. As a result, acoustics are by their nature dynamic and organic, while electronic music can seem lifeless and devoid of natural flow. One way to achieve movement in electronic music is through the modulation and automation of various sound parameters, although this can still leave an impression of staticity and predictability. The second is to constantly engage in physical contact with the emerging sound, with various parameters, and above all with elements that modulate and automate the sound - this causes the sound to come alive in so many dimensions that its very evolution begins to form a narrative.
