🚨 Breaking News 🗞️ 🚨 Scientists at CERN have successfully completed the world’s first road transport of antimatter. Reported by The Associated Press @apnews 🗞️- On March 24, 2026, researchers from the BASE-STEP experiment at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva loaded a portable cryogenic Penning trap containing 92 antiprotons into a specially equipped truck. The ~1,000 kg (2,200 lb) trap — a vacuum-sealed, superconducting magnetic device — was driven around the CERN campus for approximately 30 minutes as part of a carefully controlled ~3–4 hour operation. Antimatter annihilates instantly upon contact with ordinary matter, releasing energy, so the test required extreme precision to keep the particles isolated. Upon the truck’s return, scientists confirmed the antiprotons remained safely contained inside the trap. CERN physicist Stefan Ulmer stated: “The particles returned… so this was a success.” The milestone marks a key step toward a future “antimatter delivery service,” potentially allowing antiprotons to be transported to other research laboratories across Europe for higher-precision measurements. 📍 CERN, Meyrin, Switzerland 🗓️ March 24, 2026 #CERN #Antimatter #Antiprotons #ParticlePhysics #BASESTEP 📍 Legal Disclaimer and Notice 📍 This post is intended solely for educational purposes and to raise awareness. Antimatter has officially left the laboratory! CERN researchers prove it can be safely moved by road to specialized facilities worldwide. On March 24, 2026, scientists at CERN’s BASE experiment reached a groundbreaking milestone by successfully transporting 92 antiprotons via road. Using a specialized cryogenic Penning trap, the team moved the antimatter counterparts to protons by truck, proving that these highly volatile particles can survive outside a controlled laboratory environment. To prevent the immediate annihilation that occurs when antimatter touches ordinary matter, the researchers utilized a portable, superconducting magnetic container that maintained a vacuum at a staggering -269°C. This achievement demonstrates that the most delicate substances in the universe can be safely relocated without catastrophic failure. This successful transport marks the dawn of a new era for fundamental physics, allowing antimatter to be studied at specialized laboratories away from the magnetic noise of CERN’s main accelerators. By moving these particles to quieter environments, researchers can perform high-precision measurements that were previously impossible. These studies are critical to solving the mystery of matter-antimatter asymmetry—the fundamental question of why our universe exists at all. As antimatter begins its journey to other European laboratories, scientists are one step closer to unlocking the deep-seated secrets of the early universe. source: Nature. (2026). Scientists at CERN successfully transported antimatter for the first time using a truck. The antimatter particles, called antiprotons, were produced and stored in a special device known as BASE-STEP. Because antimatter instantly annihilates when it touches normal matter, the particles were kept inside an ultra-high vacuum and trapped using powerful superconducting magnets cooled to extremely low temperatures (around −269 °C). This magnetic trap prevents the antimatter from touching the container walls, allowing it to be safely stored and moved. During the experiment, scientists carefully drove the antimatter container around the CERN Research Campus to test whether such delicate particles could survive transportation outside the laboratory environment. The experiment was successful and proved that antimatter can be safely moved between research facilities. This breakthrough could allow scientists in different laboratories to study antimatter more easily and may help researchers better understand one of the biggest mysteries in physics—why the universe is made mostly of matter instead of antimatter after the Big Bang. #

CERN put antimatter on a truck, drove it around, and somehow brought every particle back alive. That sounds absurd until you realize why physicists are taking it so seriously. Watched the video and want to understand how a 1-ton trap kept 92 antiprotons from annihilating, why the viral “antimatter bomb” jokes miss the point, and how this could enable sharper matter-vs-antimatter tests? There’s an article linked in the comment. #cern #truck #physics #particle #antiprotons #annihilating #viral #explained #courseasy #antimatter

A team of scientists from the BASE experiment at CERN successfully transported a trap filled with antiprotons in a truck across the Laboratory’s main site. The team managed to accumulate a cloud of 92 antiprotons in an innovative portable cryogenic Penning trap, then disconnect it from the experimental facility, load it onto a truck and continue experiment operation after transport. This is a remarkable achievement, given that antimatter is very difficult to preserve, as it annihilates upon contact with matter. This world premiere is a test, the ultimate aim being to transport antiprotons to other European laboratories, such as Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU), where very-high-precision measurements of the antiproton properties could be performed. #antimatter #physics #science

Physicists just took a road trip with a load of antimatter. To keep the 92 antiprotons safe on the hour and a half long drive, researchers built a massive "Penning trap" that uses magnetic fields and ultrahigh vacuums to keep the particles suspended in space. By making antimatter portable, scientists can move it to specialized labs to investigate fundamental cosmic mysteries, like why the universe is made of matter if both types were created in equal amounts during the Big Bang. 🎤📝: Emma Gometz 🎞️: Carin Leong 📸: CERN #science #physics #particlephysics #bigbang
