TH💫Not many talk about ECVs in Singapore, so here’s my story
My baby has always been lying transverse since 2nd trimester & then turned breech from 35-37 weeks. And so I decided to do ECV💓
ECV is a procedure where your doctor uses firm pressure on your abdomen to guide baby into a head-down position - all while monitoring baby’s heart rate before & after.
Mine was a positive one and did not do any epidural or pain management for this.
It felt like an intense deep-tissue massage, uncomfortable but manageable!
Here are some tips if you’re considering it:
✨Ask your doctor to check cord position & fluid levels first.
✨Relax and take slow breaths during procedure
✨Choose an experienced obstetrician who does
ECVs often
So thankful the experience wasn’t as daunting as I thought and don’t mind doing procedure again for natural delivery if the position of breech baby and cord are ideal! Baby turned back despite this but at least we tried our best!

• ✅ Safe for most moms + babies
• ✅ Increases chance of a normal vaginal birth
• ⚠️ Not always successful (about 50% work)

MAECV = External Cephalic Version
What is it - a procedure that manually turns baby from head up to head down.
Why is it done - to avoid cesarean delivery if the parents would prefer a v@ginal birth
Who can have this - most women with no underlying health issues or risk of complications can have this done from 36/37 weeks of pregnancy to about 39 weeks of pregnancy.
Success rate - the average success rate is 50%, BUT, a successful version is counted as a baby that flips head down, not as one that STAYS head down. Sometimes babies do turn back up ⬆️
Risks - there can be fetal and maternal health risks with an ECV. In our city, most providers do an ultrasound guided ECV in the hospital OR, with pain management for mother.
