MOEarlier today, I unfortunately caused a small bleed in the back of my eye socket. In this clip, you can see a small area of redness at the back of the socket. It’s a minor injury I caused when I caught the tissue slightly while removing my prosthetic. My socket has always been quite sensitive, and even nearly five years after surgery, the blood vessels inside are still fragile — so it doesn’t take much to cause irritation or discomfort.
I don’t take my prosthetic in and out very often, usually only to clean it or if I notice something has got behind it. This time it was just for a quick clean, but it’s likely to feel uncomfortable for another day or so.
The socket contains an implant underneath, and the prosthesis sits over it like a shell. The lining is delicate and mine is quite sensitive. I usually take my prosthetic out at a specific angle to avoid catching it, but today, misjudged that slightly.
It will heal and it’s all part of my learning but I thought it was worth sharing the whole journey, not just the selected highlights.
