Major scale formula: Whole – Whole – Half – Whole – Whole – Whole – Half (W–W–H–W–W–W–H) Example in C major: C → D → E → F → G → A → B → C Minor scale formula (natural minor): Whole – Half – Whole – Whole – Half – Whole – Whole (W–H–W–W–H–W–W) Example in C minor: C → D → E♭ → F → G → A♭ → B♭ → C Same starting note. Different spacing. That spacing changes the scale, which changes the chords, which changes the overall sound. For example: If you don’t understand that the C major scale is C D E F G A B You won’t fully understand why the I–V–vi–IV progression works: C – G – Am – F Music theory isn’t random facts. It’s a hierarchy. Foundation → Structure → Application. MUSIC THEORY QUIZ! Let’s become Music Theory Masters in 2026. You can solve/conceptualize intervals in a few different ways. Here I used the trick of identifying the inverse intervals. (If you want to learn all the interval tricks, find my book: Mastering Intervals!!🔗) With inverse intervals, Major becomes minor and minor becomes Major 3 becomes 6, 6 becomes 3 4 becomes 5 and opposite 2 becomes 7 and opposite the inverse of the tritone is the tritone unison becomes octave, I suppose All of these add to 9 strangely. Except tritone… maybe we could call it 4.5? Did you get this one correct??!??!?!
