💚💙💚 This is how I keep from losing my scissors… I learned a long time ago that if I don’t wear my snips around my neck, they disappear. Into fabric piles, under patterns, somewhere mysterious… So when @ldh_scissors sent me these beautiful snips, I knew I wanted to make them work the way I work. They came with us really lovely sheath, which I didn’t want to give up. So I punched a couple holes, threaded, elastic through both the case and the scissors, and now I get the best of both worlds! They’re always within reach, and I’m not poking myself every time I lean over my table. (ask me how I know this 😂) The right tools absolutely matter. But making your tools fit your workflow, That’s where the sewist magic is. huge thank you to LDH scissors for sending these my way! If you’re in the market for high-quality scissors, they truly make some beautiful ones. And if you’ve got a sewing system, you swear by, I wanna hear it! Sound off in the comments. Follow along for more little ways I make my sewing life work for me! ✂️ #scissors #snips #sewing

✨ Save this before you buy another “must-have” sewing gadget 🧵 Not every tool experts rave about is essential — especially when you’re just getting started and don't even have a lot of storage space available. You don’t need to cover that corner of your dining table with loads of (expesnsive!) shiny extras. You just need a few that actually make sewing smoother. Here are my 3 forever-keepers: 🧵 Chalk wheel It gives you clean, visible lines that brush off easily — no guessing and no permanent marks on your precious fabric. When you can see exactly where to sew or cut, everything instantly feels more in control. 🪡 Seam ripper Not because you’ll fail — but because you’re learning. A good seam ripper takes up little space but makes fixing mistakes quick and calm. Which means you keep going instead of quitting. 💪 🧲 Magnetic pin cushion No more scattered pins hiding under the table for your feet to find (or worse, the kids' feet). It keeps everything in one safe spot and makes clean-up ridiculously easy. See?!? 3 simple tools that make a big impact. What’s one sewing tool that you've been eyeing off that someone said "everyone needs"? If you’re building your beginner kit, save this the next time you are at the store. #sewingforbeginners #sewingtips #isew #sewinglife #sewingadvice

If your sewing never quite looks as clean as you imagined, it’s usually not the pattern or the fabric, it’s these bad habits adding up. 🍬 Cutting fabric in the air stretches and shifts it off grain, which is why pieces don’t line up later. Always cut on a flat table so everything stays supported and accurate. 🍬 Sewing without testing first is how tension issues, wrong stitch length and the wrong needle sneak into a project. It takes thirty seconds to test on a scrap piece of fabric before you commit, and the result is hours of saved time spent unpicking. 🍬 If you’re pulling fabric from the back of the machine, you’re unintentionally stretching your seams as you sew. To sew straighter and more accurate guide the fabric lightly instead, and let the feed dogs do the work for you. #teaganjacobs

🔪 Is your cutting mat looking like a crime scene with so many fibers stuck to it that CSI would have a field day? 😵 Don’t call time of death just yet — there’s a simple solution to it and I bet you have it at home. Just turn to your eraser and gently rub over the cuts. The eraser helps lift those trapped fibers right out, allowing the mat to close up again and self-heal (no joke, that’s what it’s called!) 💚 Share this with a sewist whose cutting mat needs some TLC! PS: I clearly have to stop watching re-runs of Bones, listening to true crime and obsessing with The Pitt — this is getting out of hand! 😅 . 🌸 Hey, I’m Anaïs, a passionate sewist and pattern designer. Trying out electric scissors for some of my bigger cuts with multiple layers of fabric. I need to learn how to use them with a ruler before I can give it an accurate review, but do you have any specific tools that aren’t typical for sewing or crafting you love? Tell me below… I always love a good recommendation.

Want to level up your sewing? Here’s three tips: 🩷 Pressing is essential, but the right tools can change the result. An ironing ham supports curves so fabric isn’t flattened. A wooden clapper traps steam and lets the fibres cool in place, creating crisp, lasting shape. 🩷 The best stitches are the ones you don’t notice. Understitching keeps facings and linings from rolling onto the outside. Ladder stitches close lining openings cleanly without any visible thread. 🩷 Lining a garment isn’t just about comfort. It’s about structure, longevity, and a clean look. When the inside is just as considered as the outside, the whole piece is elevated. #teaganjacobs

Using the fabric scissors to cut other things??? ✂️ Those are fighting words! I think one of the first lessons I learned when beginning to sew is “fabric scissors for only fabric.” But that doesn’t mean everyone in my house follows that rule 🫣 Has anyone used your good fabric scissors to cut other materials?

Unexpected sewing tools I keep within arm’s reach. None of these were designed for sewing, but I reach for them again and again. ✂️ Lighter: Seals elastic ends to stop fraying, you can also seal synthetic thread ends when hand sewing. ✂️ Hair straightener: Perfect for pressing multiple straps at once, and getting into areas a normal iron can’t reach. ✂️ Straw + straw cleaner: My favourite method for turning close-ended straps inside out. Slide the fabric over the straw, and push the straw opening inwards with the straw cleaner, now pull the fabric and voila! ✂️ Tape: Extends your seam allowance guide when your machine plate doesn’t go far enough. Great for sewing wide hems, deep tucks, or anything over the standard markings. ✂️ Tweezers: For tucking in strap ends neatly, pulling fabric into corners, turning tiny details, and doing the fiddly work fingers struggle with. #teaganjacobs
