Fevers aren’t the problem, they’re part of the solution. 🌡️ A fever is the body turning up the heat to support the immune system and fight what doesn’t belong. Instead of immediately suppressing it, Barbara reminds us to support the body with proper hydration and gentle, tepid baths until the fever passes naturally. Healing happens when we work with the body, not against it. #naturalhealing #fevers #hydration #water #immunesupport #holistichealth #healthiswealth #wellness #naturalremedies #didyouknow #barbaraoneill #thehealthyyhabitat #reels

Many parents fear fevers. They think that a fever will hurt their child. They worry, lose sleep, and seek medical treatment for a fevering child. Fevers are a healthy immune response to an illness or infection. The body elevates the internal temperature in order to overpower the virus present in our body. Fevers are a good thing! They are a common and harmless immune response. ( most of the time) Let’s break down a bunch of common fever myths so the next time your little one has an elevated temperature… you are ready🌿 Myth: All fevers need to be treated with fever medicine. Fact: Fevers only need to be treated if there is more discomfort. Most fevers don’t cause too much discomfort until they reach 102*-103*F Myth: Once the fever comes down with medication, it should stay down Fact: it’s totally normal to have a fever for a couple of days (2-3 days). When the fever medication wears off the fever will spike again. Only when the body has overpowered the virus will the fever lower naturally. Myth: The exact number of the fever temperature is important. Fact: How you child looks is far more important then the number. Myth: Fevers over 104*F are dangerous. They can cause severe brain injury. Fact: Fevers with infections don’t cause brain injury. Extreme fevers that happen when the air temperature is high….for example a child left in a hot car on a summer day. Myth: Fevers are always bad for children. Fact: A fever turns on the immune system. Fevers help fight infection. Normal ranging fevers 100*-104*F are good for children when they are ill. Myth: Without treatment, fevers will keep going higher. Fact: Wrong. The body knows when the body is too hot. Most fevers from infection will not Hoover 103*-104*F. If you want to know how I treat fevers comment ✨FEVER ✨and I will send you my quick fever guide. As a nurse and mom to 6 - I view a fever as a good thing. The fever itself isn’t a sickness, it’s a symptom that indicates the immune system is doing its job. Here are a few more things I think it’s important to know about fevers ⬇️ Most fevers from infection don’t go above 103 or 104. They rarely go to 105 or 106. While these are “high” fevers, they are also harmless. Fevers are a protective mechanism and a sign that your immune system is working. They help the body fight infection and can shorten the duration of illness. Prioritize hydration, sleep, and rest when experiencing a fever, and reconsider reducing (check out my fever highlight for more). Know that tylenol depletes glutathione which is needed in a healthy immune system - I always keep dye free ibuprofen on hand as an alternative and last resort after doing things like lukewarm baths, cool washcloths, and essential oils. When a fever is concerning… A fever at any temp in an infant under 3 months of age could be a result of a bacterial infection which could quickly become life threatening. A feverish child who is lethargic or difficult to awaken. A child with a fever and a stiff neck or one who cries when moved or touched. If the child experiences a febrile seizure (if history of this be sure to work with a healthcare professional on fever management). Don’t forget at the end of the day you’re the parent and you know best. Always follow your instincts! I hope this was helpful! It's true! Green snot means an infection but... ... It doesn't always mean your little one needs antibiotics Let's break it down ⚪ White - lots of white snot can mean allergies or the start of a cold 🟡 Yellow - their immune system is fighting a bug but their body isn't working too hard 🟢 Green - There are LOTS of white blood cells in there telling us their body is working hard to fight an infection ➡️ BUT it doesn't always mean a bacterial infection. In fact it's more likely to be a viral infection that can't be treated with antibiotics Wait so when do you see a doctor???? If your little one still has green snot after 10 days or has fevers for longer than 5 days you might want to see a doctor as these can be signs of a bacterial infections Was this helpful?? ♥️ Like if you want to see more information like this 👆 Follow @andbreathefirstaid for sickness tips from paeds nurses #rsv #winterbugs #babysicknesstips #nzmum #fevers

How many of you have been told that teething doesn’t cause fevers? That if there’s a temperature, it must be viral? Well… as a mother of four and a clinical herbalist, I can tell you I’ve watched this happen too many times to ignore. But here’s the real question 👇 How do we know the difference? How do we know if it’s a healthy fever doing its job or a child who’s about to get sick? How do we know…… ↠ what’s too high ↠ what’s too long ↠ when to support ↠ when to seek care? Most parents have been taught that fever is dangerous and must be treated with over-the-counter medication’s… So of course we spiral 🌀not knowing what to actually do. Inside 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓, I’ll teach you how to tell the difference between a fever that’s doing its job and one that needs support, so you know exactly what to do. 🗓 Monday, February 23 🕛 12 PM PST Comment FEVER 🔥 and I’ll send you the registration link. Because once you understand what the body is doing, everything changes. 🔺 #fevers

7 things I’d tell parents about fevers if I was not afraid of hurting their feelings, as a pediatrician: 1. You and your child’s body temperature isn’t 98.6 24/7 2. The definition of fever is 100.4 F (38 C) or greater. 3. Low-grade fever is a made up term. 4. You and your child’s body temperature is higher at night…so is a fever. 5. Teething does not cause a fever. 6. Fever is a clue, not a diagnosis. We need to figure out why there is fever. 7. Fever is not dangerous. #parentingtips #fevers #parentingadvice #newparents

Kids with fevers can be scary for parents! Fevers are not the enemy and if kids are comfortable, it’s ok to let it ride for a bit and give the doctor a call in the morning. Using rubbing alcohol to try to bring down a fever can be dangerous abd should be avoided! #fevers #parents #kids #emergency #alcohol Disclaimer: For educational and entertainment purposes only and should not be regarded as medical advice or replace the advice of your physician

Detox baths are a very simple and effective way to support your child’s immune system when they’re sick! The recipe that I use is from @thenaturalmamaco Before you fill the tub with water, add the ingredients: 2 Tablespoons of epsom salts 2 Tablespoons of magnesium flakes (these are 2 different forms of magnesium, you’re not doubling up!) 4 Tablespoons of baking soda and 2 teaspoons of bentonite clay. Mix with your hand, then start filling the tub. You want the water nice and warm, breaking a sweat in this bath is another way your body will detox. Keep your kiddo in the bath as long as you can. After 20 minutes our pores are fully open, and another 20 minutes is adequate time for our skin to absorb all the minerals and goodness that is in the water. Read books, watch a show, let them play with new toys in the bathtub, or let them eat a gelatin popsicle. You HAVE to try popsicles in the tub. So fun. Warm the water up as needed as they soak. This is useful for fevers, colds, tummy aches, or otherwise irritable kids who need a little detox to help relax. Comment BATH and I’ll send you all the products I’m using and the blog post from @thenaturalmamaco . She explains the amounts to use for babies and toddlers too! #detoxbath #fevers #stomachache #bakingsoda #naturalremediesforkids #bentoniteclay #magnesium

If your kiddo has a fever, we say “treat the child, not the number”  - if they’re running and playing and fine, you can let them run with a fever. But if they’re miserable (like my daughter was last week), then just lowering the fever a little bit with meds can help you get your kiddo back! That’s why, in the ER, often we’ll give a child a “trial” of fever medications - then we watch - both for how their temperature responds, and - even more importantly - how the CHILD responds.  Comment GUIDE and I’ll share my kids cold, flu, + fever survival kit, since EVERYONE seems to have a bug this month! #fever #emergencymedicine #doctor #doctormom #fevers
