Most students waste hours memorising… the best ones focus on understanding. And the secret they use? The Feynman Technique… a study method that turns complex topics into clarity. Here’s how it works 👇 Step 1 — Learn it. Read your notes, watch the lecture, or revise the slides but don’t aim to memorise. Aim to understand. Ask yourself why things happen, not just what happens. Step 2 — Teach it. Grab a blank sheet and explain the topic as if you’re teaching a 10-year-old. If you can explain it simply… you truly understand it. If you can’t… that’s your weakness. Go back, relearn, and repeat. Step 3 — Simplify and connect. Use your own words. Make analogies. Link what you’re learning to something you already know, that’s how memory sticks. The Feynman Technique doesn’t just make you a better student, it makes you a better thinker. Because when you can teach it, you’ve truly mastered it.

UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. The Feynman technique involves the process of simplifying and explaining complex concepts as if you were teaching a fifth grader. Here are some reasons why this technique is so effective: 1. Deepens understanding: Explaining a concept in simple terms requires you to properly comprehend the information yourself. You gain a better understanding of the idea by breaking it down into its fundamental components and connecting them logically. 2. Identifies knowledge gaps: Verbally explaining an idea typically reveals gaps where you lack sufficient comprehension. If you have trouble articulating an idea or simplifying it, you can discover holes in your knowledge and target them for future study. 3. Requires active recall: Actively retrieving the information without referring to notes as you explain the subject promotes memory and long-term retention. Many studies show that the retrieval practice is more effective for long term learning than encoding! 4. Promotes critical thinking: When complicated topics are simplified, you are forced to think critically about the underlying principles, connections, and applications. Beyond surface-level memorization, higher-level thinking provides a deeper comprehension of the concept. 5. Improves communication skills: The technique helps you explain your thoughts more clearly and effectively. By practicing the ability to explain complicated concepts in simple terms, you improve your communication abilities, which can be useful in a variety of academic and professional settings. 6. Increases confidence: Successfully articulating complicated topics in simple terms can increase your confidence and self-assurance in your knowledge of the content. The technique provides visible evidence of your expertise which further reinforces learning. #philly #pennsylvania #universitycity

This technique was created by Richard Feynman, a Nobel Prize winning physicist who believed that if you cannot explain something simply, you do not actually understand it. He noticed people hide behind jargon to cover up shallow understanding. Most students do this during exams. The Feynman Technique has four steps that force true understanding instead of just memorizing definitions. Step one: Pick a topic and study it. Write everything you know on a blank page. Read your textbook and keep adding as you learn. Step two: Explain that topic as if you’re teaching a five year old. Use the simplest words possible. No jargon, no textbook language, just plain clear language anyone could follow. John Sweller’s research shows that forcing yourself to simplify tests whether you truly understand the concept or just recognize vocabulary. Step three: Be honest with yourself. Look at every point where you got stuck, every moment where you wanted to use a fancy word. Those are exact gaps in your understanding. Go back and fill those gaps. This is where real learning happens. Step four: Organize your simple explanation into a clean narrative. Read it out loud. If it flows naturally and makes sense to someone with zero background knowledge, you now own that topic. When you walk into your exam with this level of understanding, writing answers becomes easy because you’re not trying to remember words. You genuinely understand and can explain it any way the question asks. Follow for Day 11 🚀

Most people assume genius feels effortless - but Richard Feynman knew the opposite. What made him extraordinary wasn’t IQ, it was metacognition: knowing what you truly understand and what you only feel like you understand. Confidence isn’t proof of comprehension - and that’s where real learning begins. 🧠✨ Follow @thinkitthrough411 for more! #DeepThinking #MindsetMatters #CognitiveScience #IntellectualGrowth #StayCurious #Learning

Here are some other helpful methods to try ⬇️ FEYNMAN TECHNIQUE 👩🏽‍🏫🪄 Step 1: study 📚- basically learn the concept Step 2: teach 👨🏽‍🏫 - as if you’re teaching it to a child or imaginary audience Step 3: fill the gaps 🧠 - miss anything out? Now is the time to cover it again and relearn it. Step 4: simplify 🧵- review the topic again, reorganise your thoughts and find a simpler way to explain it so it flows more naturally THE QUESTION METHOD ⁉️ Narrow down your topic by focusing on a question you have about the topic. You can even use a copy of your syllabus as the question prompt and go from there 👌🏾 MINDMAPS 💭🗺️ I love mind maps because they’re a great representation of what my brain looks like inside. Pick a topic and using arrows, connect everything you know about the topic into one big web. I hope this helps and let me know which one is your fave or that you’ll like to try 🤗 🏷️ #studymotivation #student #studygram #studyvibes #medschool #medstudent #studydesk #studyspo #studyspace #studyreels #studytips #motivation #studyaesthetic #studytime #studywithme #blurtingmethod

Read caption!! In 10th grade, I was burned out—low motivation, bad grades, and zero focus. I’d spend hours “studying,” but nothing stuck. Then I came across the Feynman Technique, and it completely flipped how I learned. By 12th grade, I was studying just 1 hour a day and getting straight A’s. Here’s exactly how I used it: 1. Pick one concept at a time.
Don’t try to cover everything. Choose a single topic and focus on understanding it deeply. 2. Explain it out loud in simple language.
Pretend you’re teaching a 12-year-old. No notes, no jargon—just plain words. This forces your brain to organize the information clearly. 3. Find the gaps.
When you get stuck or can’t explain something smoothly, that’s where your real learning starts. Go back to your notes or textbook and fill in the blanks. 4. Simplify and repeat.
Keep refining your explanation until it sounds effortless. The simpler you can make it, the better you understand it. 5. Test yourself later.
Come back the next day and try explaining it again—without looking. If it still makes sense, you’ve mastered it. Once I started using this method, I didn’t need marathon study sessions. One focused hour with the Feynman Technique was more effective than three hours of rereading notes. If you’re stuck, stop memorizing—start explaining. It’ll change everything. You’re gonna learn how to study SMART today!! ✅💯🧠🥹 - The techniques: 1️⃣ Feynman Technique - learn the content (e.g., through reading your notes or in class) then try to teach the subject to someone who is unfamiliar with the topic (e.g. a child, a friend, a family member, stuffed toys if desperate). Being able to do this will show true mastery and understanding of the topic 👩🏼‍🏫 . 2️⃣ Active Recall - any study technique where you retrieve information when prompted, without reading/looking at your notes. Examples include: Flashcards, Blurting, Practice Questions 🗂️ . 3️⃣ Application - do practice questions (textbook, past year exams, online resources) to learn how to understand APPLY content rather than simply rote learn it. This will help you gain a deep understanding of the content & score well in your exams, which mostly test you on these sorts of questions ✍🏼 . 4️⃣ Spaced Repetition - revise content at regular increasing intervals to remember it better. For example, once when you get home from school, then again that weekend, the next weekend, the next fortnight, the next month etc. You only need to go over your notes briefly each time. Say 15-20mins 📆 Follow for more study tips & motivation 🩷🧠 - #Studytips #studyhacks #studygram #studymotivation #studyspo #studyspiration #students #studentlife #examtips #examready #topstudent #goodgrades #studysmart

1. Learn the Feynman Technique - Teach what you've just learned to someone else in simple words. If you can't explain it easily, you don't understand it fully yet. This makes you learn faster. 2. Use Memory Palace - Imagine placing key ideas in rooms of a house you know well. When you walk through the house in your mind, you'll recall everything in the right order. 3. Spaced Repetition – Review the material multiple times with breaks in between. Start by reviewing after 1 hour, then 1 day, then 1 week. This helps you remember long-term. 4. Active Recall – Instead of just reading, close the book and try to remember what you just learned. Challenge yourself to recall everything without looking. 5. Brain Dump – Write down everything you know about a topic on a blank sheet of paper. This clears your mind and helps you see what you missed, making it faster to review. #manipulation #psychology #darkpsychology #psychologytips #bodylanguage #manipulationmystery #psychologyhacks
