You wouldn’t just use a broom to clean a spill, and you wouldn’t use a sponge to sweep the porch. You need both to get the job done! 1️⃣ Soluble Fiber (The Sponge) This fiber loves water. When it enters your gut, it turns into a thick gel. What it does: It acts like a sponge, soaking up extra cholesterol and slowing down digestion. The Benefit: This keeps you feeling full for longer and prevents “energy crashes” after you eat. Where to find it: Oats, beans, avocados**, and the inside of apples. **On-screen, avocados are listed under insoluble fiber, as they are ~50-60% that, BUT most foods contain both and they’re a great source of soluble fiber as well. Eat all the things. 2️⃣ Insoluble Fiber (The Broom) This fiber does NOT dissolve in water. It stays tough and bulky. What it does: It acts like a broom, sweeping through your digestive tract to keep things moving. The Benefit: This is your “stay regular” insurance! It prevents bloating and keeps your gut healthy. Where to find it: Whole wheat, nuts, cauliflower, and the skins of your fruits and veggies. If you only have “The Sponge,” things might get too sluggish. If you only have “The Broom,” things might move too fast.
