I thank God. I took my first walk in the hospital today after my robotic myomectomy. My husband cut the video because I began to cry. I cried from pain, from overwhelm, and from the weight of finally being on the other side of something that has taken so much from me. For those who don’t know, fibroids are noncancerous growths that form in or on the uterus. They can cause heavy bleeding, bloating, pelvic pain, urinary pressure, and even impact fertility. Millions of women live with them for years before being properly diagnosed or treated, and Black women are disproportionately affected, often developing fibroids earlier and experiencing more severe symptoms. A robotic myomectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that removes fibroids while preserving the uterus. It is done through small incisions using robotic-assisted precision, which means less blood loss, less scarring, and typically a faster recovery. But even with advanced technology, the healing still happens the old-fashioned way….one slow step at a time. Today, I couldn’t go very far before I had to turn around. But that short walk mattered. Walking after surgery helps prevent blood clots, promotes circulation, stimulates bowel function, and signals to your nervous system that your body is safe to move again. It is one of the most important steps in recovery, even when it hurts and even when it feels emotional. Healing isn’t linear. It’s humbling. It’s brave. And it starts with one step. Non-surgical, but don’t let that fool you. Why I needed it: Let’s just say my “monthly visitor” overstayed their welcome and brought the whole extended family. For years. My iron levels were in the basement despite medical intervention. I have been suffering with extremely low oxygen levels, small red blood cells, tested for sickle cell and not seeing results from my fitness journey. What my 2 week post op experience: Day 1-4: Heating pad + pain meds were my boyfriend and my husband, contractions every hour like my uterus was having a baby Day 6: Thought I was recovered, tried to work, nearly fainted in meeting #4 (my iron clocked out) Week 2 (Today): Finally driving again, missing my gym terribly, but we’re on light duty only I’ve let fibroids live with me knowingly 9 years, not acknowledging how much disruption it has caused not only my health but my life. Stop letting doctors minimize your symptoms. If your quality of life is suffering, YOU get to decide that’s not acceptable. Research your options. Ask questions until you get real answers. Y’all I have the best manager in the world!!!!!!!! 🤏🏾 Please check your body my ladies, go for that scan once you feel some type of way. I always shy away from pain and I hate going to the hospital but this experience has taught me to take my health more seriously. 🤏🏾 A lot of my ladies are scared of booking that surgery, trust me, all will be well.
