Ficus are known for dropping their leaves when they’re slightly unhappy, and I hadn’t watered this triangularis variegata for a bit too long 😬
✨ snip a branch or make a small cut, if sap starts to drip there’s hope!
✨ make sure it’s in the conditions it needs to thrive—ficus appreciate bright light, a west or south window ideally
✨ figure out their watering needs—obviously this triangularis variegata needs to be watered more often than my others, a ficus benjamina ‘el dorado’ has had the same care and hasn’t dropped a single leaf
✨ My plan to help it recover and grow new leaves is to water when the soil is dry 1/2 way down vs completely dry like I do for my other ficus. Keep it in a bright window and fertilize (linked in bio). It should be just fine now that we’re going into spring.

_PMy ficus triangularis isn’t doing well. Just as I thought it’s the root system. The root system is saddening small with a root plug. And the pot is way to big for it. Naturally I move it to leca set up.

WESaying goodbye to my 7ft tall Ficus Audrey 🥹
I’ve had this plant since 2020, and if you’ve been following me for a while, this tree has been known for my festive decorations during Christmas and lunar new year. 🌳
Here are some care tips for the future plant parent or any ficus audrey parents out there:
- Also known as Ficus benghalensis
- A tropical grower, native to forests of Pakistan and India
- loves bright, indirect sunlight
- plant in an airy mix to insure the plant dries out evenly between waterings
- occasionally wipe down the leaves
This Ficus is a much more forgiving plant and can tolerate a lower light conditions compared to their infamous cousin, the fiddle leaf fig. 😉

How I care for the four different types of ficus plants in our home…
Simple. Consistent. Weekly.
•Ficus Triangularis
•Audrey Ficus
•Ficus Moclame
•Big Island Ficus
They all get bright, indirect light and I water them once a week.
That’s it.
Good drainage is key, no cold drafts, and I try not to move them around too much.
If a leaf drops, it’s usually just them telling me something changed.
Easy plants. Calm routine. Let them do their thing.

I keep these in a south facing window & feed them often.
Make sure not to overwater these - I use my soil probe to test the soil every single time before I water them. Once dry - full drench & drain!
