EAPruning Fig Tress for size and fruit!
✂️I like to prune my fig trees to 3-5 main leaders to keep the size down. You can choose to grow one main trunk like a normal tree and prune it to manage its structure.
🌳Removing a majority of the year old wood that’s coming out of the ground and heading off existing branches causes the new growth to form where fruit will grow.
🍈Unlike many other fruit trees, figs grow on 1st year wood and even a brand new tree can produce fruit in its first year!
🌱Fig trees are great for new and old fruit tree growers alike because they are on of the easiest trees to manage as they grow rapidly and you can quickly learn and make changes from previous year’s cuts. And the best part of all, you can easily propagate the cuttings to grow an endless supply of fig trees.
