EXAbacus Finger Method (Finger Abacus / Chisanbop-Style Counting)
The abacus finger method is a mental math technique inspired by the traditional abacus. Instead of beads, you use your fingers to represent place values and perform fast calculations.
Basic Idea
Each hand represents place value:
Right hand → Ones (units)
Left hand → Tens
(Advanced users extend to hundreds and thousands mentally.)
On each hand:
Thumb = 5
Each finger (index to little) = 1
So on one hand:
Show 3 → Raise three fingers (3)
Show 7 → Thumb (5) + two fingers (2) = 7
Example: 8 + 7
1. Show 8 on right hand → Thumb (5) + 3 fingers.
2. Add 7:
Add 2 to reach 10 → Reset right hand to 0.
Carry 1 to left hand (ten).
Add remaining 5 on right hand. Result: 15.
