ANOne of the best cues I can give a player regarding passing technique on the floor:
“Imagine the ball is a balloon… and you’re popping it with a needle that’s just below your ankle bone.”
The movement is not long or flowing — it’s short, sharp, and decisive.
Anything more is wasted movement.
When this is done correctly, you’ll see:
• Immediately prepared for the next action
• Balanced feet
• Clean, firm passes that stay on the ground
• No unnecessary spin
At the highest level, this matters.
Because the game demands the ability to play one-touch, precise passes into tight spaces — quickly while under immense pressure.
If you notice, every pass is on the ground coming off his foot and it has no spin or limited spin. This is because he is making contact in the perfect middle ball AND very important, how his foot returns straight back down to the ground after contact… it does not come up.
