Every year, Manali faces the same issue of flooding. Yes, there is a larger climate change crisis at play. heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and the melting of glaciers are beyond our control. But what we can control are the large-scale hydro projects that divert rivers, the tunnels that cut through fragile mountains, and the poor construction practices that disrupt the natural flow of water. The result? Roads collapse, bridges get washed away, villages are cut off. yet the priority still seems to be profit, not safety. Interestingly, many resorts and hotels built right next to rivers have survived these floods. Why? Because private players have invested in proper RCC flood protection systems. If they can protect their properties, why canโt the government ensure the same level of safety for highways, bridges, and villages?
Kudos to BRO workers, local authorities and the local people who are working hard to restore things back to normal!
