Liatris bulbs can even be lifted and divided once it gets too big! BOTH can be bought in most garden centres, bargain stores and even b&q and Homebase! 🪻 Planting spring bulbs right now? Here’s how to do it the smart way. This time of year you’ll often find pre sprouted bulbs like tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and alliums already starting to grow. These are perfect to plant now, but the key is choosing the right ones. 🌷 Look for bulbs with green shoots starting but no flowers yet. If they’re already blooming, you’ll miss most of the show at home. ALSO!! Count how many bulbs are in each pot, make sure you aren’t getting shorted a bulb. When you plant pre sprouted bulbs: • Plant them at the same depth they were growing in the pot • Water well after planting • Choose a sunny spot • They work great in both beds and containers I also like to buy bulbs in bulk whenever possible because it saves a surprising amount of money, especially if you’re planting larger areas. Spring flowers start now, even if it still feels like winter. Dahlias, begonias and callas are bring continuous colour to the garden through summer and most of autumn. As they are not frost hardy, they should be potted up now and started indoors or in a greenhouse until risk of frost has passed. The last day that I went to do them the ground was frozen but no excuses I've had plenty opportunities 😊 Source Chat GPT How to plant sprouted bulbs for any new gardeners Plant at the normal depth for that bulb (sprout pointing up). If the sprout is long, it’s okay if a little green stays above the soil and Water well after planting. Mulch lightly if cold weather is still expected. Will they survive? Spring bulbs (tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth): Usually fine if planted late. You might get fewer flowers this year, but many still bloom and will likely do better next year. Summer bulbs (gladiolus, lilies, dahlias): Totally fine to plant now if the ground isn’t frozen. Store them in an egg carton or paper bag to keep them happy until planting time. Save or share these quick tips: 🌷 Never store bulbs in plastic - they’ll sweat and rot. 🌷 Keep them away from fruit. The gases fruit releases can ruin your bulbs. 🌷 Label them clearly so they don’t get mistaken for onions. 🌷Cool climate bulbs like daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and grape hyacinths need a minimum of 6 weeks in the fridge before planting.
