ERI’m done hiding it. It’s something I can’t control so I’m being raw and making this post. I just self discharged after spending 33 days admitted in hospital and been in and out of hospital for a while before that.
As some of you are aware, I have been showing symptoms of ‘extreme anxiety’ (doctors words) for years now. I’ve had test after test and they all came back clear. Heart monitor, constant observations taken, 24 hour eeg, results all clear. The seizures. The fainting episodes. The tremors and temporary paralysis. The fatigue. Sickness after sickness.
‘It’s not epilepsy’ those words are a blessing but als a curse. I’m glad, knowing that my seizures are ‘safe’ and don’t damage my brain (seudo/functional pnes seizures).
However it means it can’t be controlled by medication.
It’s chronic, there is no cure. Therapy relieves some symptoms, but it’s something that changes seriousness based on external factors such as stress, anxiety, hyperactivity etc which all come with my diagnosis of autism (awaiting an adhd diagnosis).
FND (functional neurological disorder) can stroke at any time and ruin your life completely.
I’m sharing this post to raise awareness of what I have been going through on a daily basis.
I’m truly thankful for all of the people who have stuck by my side and supported me throughout my diagnosis. I’ve met some truly incredible people and I’ll forever be in debt to them.

PAPeople love to comment “It’s FND” like it’s a magic explanation.
So here’s the truth: FND is real. It deserves treatment and good care.
But it does not cause spasticity, nerve death, muscle damage, hypoventilation, respiratory failure, or colon inertia.
Functional issues won’t cause structural findings.
Functional issues don’t cause an EMG to show active denervation
Functional issues don’t make a colon not move or contract.
Functional issues don’t cause brisk reflexes.
These are structural, measurable, reproducible findings.
Slapping “FND” on a case with clear, progressive neurological and systemic impairment isn’t supportive, it’s dismissive. If you don’t understand the difference, that’s okay. But don’t slap random labels on people.

CHTrigger warning ⚠️-transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment for depression but also can help with anxiety, sleep, migraines, and functional neurological disorder (FND).
It's been about 7 months since my TMS therapy and I just wanted to give an update. I received a lot of comments and questions so I thought I would address them below.
I'm still receiving and maintaining the benefit I received during the therapy. My anxiety, depression, migraines and brain fog have improved as well as improved cognition and coordination. I feel sharper.
The negative parts of the experience were the vibration caused my cervical dystonia to be inflamed. Therefore I would caution anyone that has neck issues. The other negative was the time and frequency required for the treatment was long.

I started TMS therapy 5 weeks ago. I'm having improvements each session. I even felt different after the first treatment. I asked the doctor if that was normal and he said it can happen but usually requires about 2 weeks of treatment before a person notices a difference.
I have to wear a felt cap that fits snug. Then the metal magnet apparatus is placed over the cap and pulses are sent once a minute for about 5 seconds for 20 minutes. Each appointment usually requires a five to 10% increase in the intensity of the pulses. It depends on the person but it usually requires 36 sessions.
The pulses are directed at the temples and the e top of the head. It doesn't hurt but it's uncomfortable but so far I think it's worth it. However, it's a big time commitment as it's 36 separate 20 minute sessions and I do feel very tired afterwards.
This treatment was originally designed for drug resistant depression but is now starting to treat anxiety, migraines, sleep disturbances, seizures and FND.
