Life often throws us into situations where we encounter people who believe they can outsmart us. The quote, “Sometimes you have to play the role of a fool to fool the fools who think they're fooling you,” reminds us of the power of wisdom and patience. It’s not about being naive or letting others take advantage of you—it’s about being strategic and knowing when to act. Sometimes, the best way to handle manipulative individuals is to let them believe they’re in control, all while staying one step ahead. This approach allows you to see their true intentions while protecting your energy and avoiding unnecessary conflict. When you stay calm, observant, and play along, you're not actually the fool; you're in control of the situation. It’s a lesson in mastering the art of discretion, where your silence and restraint speak louder than words. It's about turning the tables without ever making a scene. Stay clever, stay patient, and let those who underestimate you continue to live in their illusion. ↓You just have to play the role of a fool to fool the fool who thinks they are fooling you. . . Sometimes in life, you have to outsmart those who think they’re outsmarting you. Playing the fool to a fool can be a powerful strategy—it’s not about deception, but about knowing when to step back, observe, and let them think they've won. It’s about understanding the bigger picture and waiting for the right moment to reveal your true intentions. Remember, the wisest among us know when to let others believe they’re in control, only to flip the script when it truly counts. . . Never underestimate the power of patience and strategy. . . . Many believe that people are incapable of not lying🤷‍♀️ Sure, sometimes lies are conscious, and we willingly distort the truth hoping to deceive others. But such cases are still the minority. More often, deception is a reflexive, instinctive act meant to protect us. Protect us from what? From violence—physical, moral, material, or psychological (feelings of shame, loss of faith in oneself…). In short, we often spontaneously deceive to protect our relationships with others. In a broad sense, we lie because we fear losing another person’s love. Surprisingly, the ability to be honest with others is rooted in how much trust a person has in the world. The first ones to give a child such an experience are their parents. If this experience was unsuccessful, a child’s mind concludes that truth is an obligation associated with discomfort, something more likely to be scolded for than praised. It’s more advantageous to present such a ‘truth’ that won’t, at the very least, invite punishment. How about you? How is your ability to speak the truth? Do you often find it easy to be honest? One of the most common gaslighting phrases a narcissist uses is “I’m only joking,” and it is rarely harmless. Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where a narcissist causes you to doubt your perception, your feelings, and your reality. When a narcissist says “I’m only joking” after a cutting or humiliating comment, they are testing how much they can get away with and how quickly you will dismiss your own reaction. Narcissists use gaslighting as a tool of power and control. This phrase allows them to provoke, undermine, or shame you while avoiding accountability. If you feel hurt, the narcissist reframes you as overly sensitive. If you challenge them, they accuse you of overreacting. Over time, gaslighting trains you to question your instincts instead of their behaviour. Repeated narcissistic gaslighting creates confusion, self doubt, and emotional instability. You start analysing yourself rather than recognising the manipulation. The narcissist does not need to shout to maintain control. They use minimisation and denial to destabilise you, with “I’m only joking” acting as the cover. If this phrase leaves you feeling smaller, anxious, or on edge, it is not humour. It is gaslighting. Recognising it is how you begin to trust yourself again, reclaim your reality, and loosen the hold of narcissistic control. #narcissisticabuse #gaslighting #narcissist #coercivecontrol #emotionalabuse

And every time you flinched, they told you that you were too sensitive. That’s not humor.
