Weaving Wednesday | Hamilton Green Ancient tartan weaving in our medium weight Braeriach cloth. Walter Fitz Gilbert was an ancestor of the Hamilton family line in Scotland, from whom the Dukes of Hamilton descend. During the Wars of Scottish Independence, he held the mighty Bothwell Castle on behalf of the English but later transferred his support to Robert the Bruce. In recognition, he was rewarded with the Barony of Cadzow. In the generations that followed, the Hamiltons rose steadily in prominence.
