Since getting back into sports (mainly tennis) over the past couple of years, I’ve realised I was leaving a huge gap in my training. Workouts are amazing — they build strength, definition, endurance, and confidence — but sports? They’re the ultimate test of how functional and adaptable our bodies really are. It’s not just about looking good or chasing fat loss. It’s about moving well. Sprinting, twisting, reaching, reacting — being able to move in dynamic, unpredictable ways. That’s real fitness. Sure, being able to do push-ups and squats is awesome. But what’s the point if we can’t lunge for a ball, chase after our kids, or feel physically limitless in daily life? So here’s my encouragement to you: alongside your workouts, try to include sports or activities that challenge your body naturally — whether it’s tennis, running, hiking, swimming, or cycling. They’ll strengthen your movement patterns, sharpen your mind, and make training feel more alive. I’ve got a tennis match tomorrow — can’t wait to move, compete, and play! Heavy leg day.... yes, I squat and deadlift heavy, hit the bulgarian split squats, RDLs , leg curls and so on....but what really gets me strong, are movements like this. No, I don't have a name for this one, I'm sure someone else does. This movement not only gets me strong, but it gets me strong in a stretched position, resulting in improved mobility/ flexibility. I incorporate movements like this to stay healthy. These are what keep me going. No, I don't recommend using 100 lbs right away lol Start light and work your way up. My hamstring and glutes were blown up! I felt it a little in my lower back muscles , but not nearly as much. Even through my calves and into my feet, this had my working. I've done something similar to this before, but not exactly this movement. This was like a good morning / stiff leg sumo RDL, with a squat and lateral lunge glide 🤣🤣 Whatever you want to call it, it's an awesome one. I love challenging myself with movements like these where I feel a strong stretch and where I can use some weight. These get you strong in the gym and for life! 🔥 Give it a try! 💪🏻 #workout #fitness #functional #mobility #flexibility #strength #jakeschum
