Prediction: Stool testing will become far more common over the next decade. Your microbiome plays roles in way too many crucial processes and health issues for this not to be the case. And yet most people never test it. Not once. This might be more of a wish than a prediction, but I’d say in ~5-10 years, stool testing will be used far more often for preventative care. If you want to be ahead of the game in terms of supporting your long term health & vitality, stool testing is a worth considering.

Are you interested in getting your stool testing done? Stop wondering why your gut isn’t healing! 🛑 Most tests only scratch the surface, but the technology used to find your root cause makes all the difference. Are you getting the full picture of your microbiome? Not all comprehensive stool analysis tests are the same. In my practice, I use the most advanced “detective work” available: Type 1: PCR Testing This “amplifies” specific DNA to find a match. It’s very precise but limited, usually looking for only 30–40 organisms. It’s like searching for a few specific people in a stadium—you miss everyone else. Type 2: Shotgun Genomic Sequencing This is the gold standard for gut health testing. We sequence the entire DNA of your gut. As of 2025, we can identify up to 200,000 organisms! Why this matters for you: We don’t just see who is in your gut; we see what they are doing. We can identify if your microbes are: Producing B-vitamins 💊 Creating short-chain fatty acids for gut repair 🛡️ Influencing your hormones and metabolism ⚖️ If your results are “normal” but you’re still bloated and tired, it’s time for a deeper look. These are some of the most commonly used #functionallabtesting that I do in my practice. I believe they give you a lot of valuable information that can help you find the root cause of many of the symptoms that you may be experiencing. Although they’re an investment, they are worth doing at least once in your life—especially if you have health concerns that have been dismissed as “fine.” What are these tests for? 💩 1. Comprehensive Stool Analysis: This tests to see if you have any pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or fungi. It tells us if you have enough “good” bacteria and whether your digestive function is working properly. 🌬️ 2. SIBO Test: Used to check for “Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth,” which is often a hidden cause of chronic bloating, constipation, or diarrhea. 🍎 3. Micronutrients Test: This assesses whether you are actually getting enough vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and proteins in your diet to fuel your body. 🥪 4. Food Sensitivity Test: Unlike an allergy that causes an immediate reaction, these look for “delayed” sensitivities that might be causing your joint pains, fatigue, and headaches. 🍞 5. Gluten Intolerance Test: This identifies if you are reacting specifically to gluten, which can be a major driver of internal inflammation. Stop guessing and start testing. Still symptomatic with no clear answers? This is exactly when we consider advanced stool testing. Comment "PANEL" to learn how we decide when deeper gut testing is appropriate. Your standard stool test may have missed something big. Here’s what most people aren’t told ⬇️ H. pylori: ✔️ Is extremely common worldwide ✔️ Can be present without obvious symptoms ✔️ Exists on a spectrum not just “yes” or “no” Typical stool tests often miss it because: ❌ They’re less sensitive ❌ H. pylori can live in patches, not evenly shed ❌ Low-level or suppressed infections may not trigger a positive result The GI-MAP (aka Poop Panel) uses DNA-based PCR technology, which is: ✨ More sensitive ✨ More specific ✨ Better at detecting low-level or dormant H. pylori Comment "PANEL" to learn how we decide when deeper gut testing is appropriate.

Fecal Microbiome testing 🩺 Practical Takeaway for Clinicians & Patients For clinicians: Current commercial microbiome tests especially DTC products should not be used to guide clinical decision-making. The science is real; the products are not ready. Direct patients toward evidence-based care and discourage self-ordering without clinical context. For patients: A positive microbiome test result (e.g., “unhealthy microbiome”) from a DTC kit is not a diagnosis. The same sample sent to different labs can yield completely different results. Costly supplements or elimination diets based on these tests may be harmful and delay proper medical evaluation. Where evidence is strong: FMT for recurrent C. difficile infection is the one proven, FDA-approved microbiome intervention. This is the gold standard for what validated microbiome medicine looks like. 📚 Key References 1. NIST/Nature Comms Bio – DTC Analytical Performance (2025) 2. Porcari et al. – International Consensus, Lancet GH (2025) 3. Hoffmann et al. – DTC Testing Needs Regulation, Science (2024) 4. PMC – Regulatory Framework Analysis (2025) 5. PMC – Microbiome Variability Implications (2025) 6. GMFH – Key Advances in Gut Microbiome Research 2025 7. FDA – Vowst Approval for C. diff Prevention Bottom line: The gut microbiome is unquestionably important to health — but current testing technology, lack of standardization, and absence of validated reference ranges mean that most commercial microbiome tests (especially DTC) are not yet clinically actionable. The field is moving fast, and validated clinical applications are likely in the coming years, but we are not there yet. ⚠️Disclaimer Educational content only. Not a medical advice.

Have you ever been told your labs are “normal” but you still feel like 🚩? You already know I’m obsessed with getting you answers. But did you know we go deeper than just the basics? When we talk about “root-cause medicine,” we aren’t just looking at one piece of the puzzle. We’re looking at the whole picture. That’s why these are also the functional lab tests I use in my practice: ☑️ Genetic Testing – To see your body’s unique “instruction manual.” ☑️ Heavy Metals & Environmental Toxins – Identifying the hidden “junk” slowing you down. ☑️ Neurotransmitters – Finally understanding why your mood and sleep feel “off.” ☑️ Hormones & Adrenal Cortisol – Getting to the bottom of that “tired but wired” feeling. ☑️ OAT & Urine Mycotoxins – Checking for metabolic “glitches” and hidden mold. Standard labs tell you if you’re “sick.” These labs tell you how to THRIVE. Because you aren’t just a collection of symptoms. You’re a complex system that deserves a precise roadmap. No more guessing. No more “trying everything” and hoping it works. Just clear data and a plan built for your biology. Ready to see what’s actually going on under the hood? Comment “ROOT” and I’ll send you the details on how we can start testing! #FunctionalMedicine #RootCause #HormoneBalance #Biohacking #HealthOptimization BrainFogRelief FunctionalLabTesting WellnessJourney HolisticHealth PrecisionMedicine

Your labs are “normal,” but you feel like 🗑️? Let’s talk about why. Bloodwork is a snapshot. If your numbers fall within a massive “reference range,” you’re told you’re fine. But “fine” is the enemy of optimal. You have your own special lab range for optimal! The functional medicine approach doesn’t just look at isolated numbers; we look at patterns. 🧩 Think of your symptoms as the “check engine light.” If the light is on, it doesn’t matter if the gas tank is full—something under the hood needs attention. We connect the dots that others miss: The Energy Gap: A “normal” TSH but low Free T3? That’s a conversion issue, not a “lack of caffeine” issue. The Silent Burnout: Normal glucose but high fasting insulin? Your body is working overtime to stay “normal,” and it’s exhausting you. The Nutrient Drain: Low-normal B12 and Vitamin D? Your mitochondria are starving for the spark plugs they need to create energy. Symptoms are clues, not nuisances. ✨ Ready for a practitioner who listens to your story, not just your labs? Test, don’t guess! 🧑‍⚕️Client Case Study 📖 These @microbaofficial test results are 12 months apart. This client was post extensive antibiotic use (month after month after month for much needed health reasons at the time). Symptoms were chronic carbohydrate intolerance, yeast overgrowth and gastrointestinal issues alongside fatigue with exertion. 12 months on, I’m happy as to report her carbohydrate tolerance is pretty much back to normal, no fungal issues, no bloating, gas or bowel upsets and great energy even with building training load. Now a retest was vital as it told us that we still have some work ahead to improve her resilience. Focusing on these remaining areas will only strengthen her system further. I was however so excited to see the improvements in her diversity and massive reduction of inflammation load. I share this case as an example of how functional testing guides gut treatment so specifically and also as an insight into understanding timelines for chronic health. I think the internet and our society in general puts so much emphasis on ‘quick fixes’ that it can give us unrealistic expectations. This case shows how when you do the work you are rewarded with not only feeling better but real, long lasting change. #thejcnclinic #jescoxnutritionist #clinicalnutritionist
