Georgia Tech has one 300-word supplemental essay with the prompt: “Why do you want to study your chosen major, and why do you want to study that major at Georgia Tech?”
In these “Why Major” essays, make sure to describe what initially sparked your interest in your intended major, then show how you’ve actively pursued this interest over time. So start with a memorable moment that ignited your passion — this could be anything from building a telescope, to watching your relative struggle with an illness. Whatever it is, make sure it shows the authentic roots of your interest.
Then highlight 1-2 meaningful experiences where you’ve deepened this interest. Did you join or start a school club? Take advanced courses? Do research in an internship? These experiences demonstrate commitment to your interest.
And finally, the most important part is connecting this essay to Georgia Tech specifically. Research their unique offerings (think: the Invention Studio, research opportunities through CREATE-X, or specific courses taught by professors). Get really specific to really show that you’ve done your research!

REGeorgia Tech has two Early Action rounds.
EA1 for Georgia Residents (decisions in December) - which saw a 7.3% increase in applications, dropping the admit rate from 33% to 30%.
EA2 decisions for Out-of-State & International students (decisions in late-January) - which saw a 3% increase in applications- the admit rate stayed relatively the same (8.1% down to 8%).
Early Action 2 is the largest round of applications, representing 55% of the total applications received for Fall 2026.
For EA2 - 25% of applications were deferred to RD
Students who applied Regular Decision or were deferred will receive a decision in late March.

THGeorgia Tech released their final round of admissions decisions to Georgia residents
This follows an EA round for GA residents (in Dec), where Georgia Tech saw:
8,700 Total GA Apps
2,640 GA Admits
30% Admit Rate
The entire EA + RD admissions cycle saw a 5% increase in applications from GA residents, totaling 13,100.
The overall applicant pool represents 136 Georgia counties and 494 high schools.
In total, 3,621 students were admitted, resulting in a 28% in-state admit rate (down from 30% last year)
The GA admit pool is interested in:
34% Engineering
30% Sciences
12% Liberal Arts
9% Business
8% Computing
6% Design
GA Tech did not provide a breakdown of GPA or test scores (likely because they do not recalculate GPA - they take it right off the transcript)
Out-of state students will have to wait a little longer for their decision and can expect a decision on March 27.
The out-of-state admit rate typically hovers around 10%.
For Future Applicants:

3. Personal Essay (this is not a writing evaluation, rather a way to get to know you better)

5. SAT/ACT scores are required (you can self-report)
6. Institutional Fit (Why GA Tech & Major)
