Isn’t it hilarious how discipline has evolved from generation to generation? Baby boomers had one style, Gen X had another, millennials are somewhere in between, and Gen Z parents are basically writing dissertations on feelings 😅 Parenting really said ‘choose your own adventure’ through the decades. #ParentingEvolution #MomHumor #MillennialMom #GenXParents #gentleparenting #BoomerParenting #GenZParents #RelatableMomLife #ModernParenting #MomLifeLOL

People from different generations have different views on parenting because their decisions were shaped from different lived experiences and different collective traumas 🕰️⌛️ 🧓🏾Boomers worked to have the American Dream and they were in an age of consumption after the w@r which focused on boosting the economy and producing. This stemmed from their parents who went through w@r and economic uncertainty. Family discussions about planning were rare and you had kids because that’s what people did. Divorce was taboo and family traditions were honored fiercely. 💼Gen X was more into materialistic accumulation and they were in the age of accumulation. Gender roles were challenged and women began to enter the workforce in traditionally male industries. If there was a problem you threw money at it. Discussing mental health and family conflict Was not common place. Marketing towards the working woman became more prominent and women wanted to have it all. 👩🏻‍💻Millennials grew up in the age of internet knowledge so they search for a better life and meaning. They seek knowledge on how to heal and process trauma. Economy crashes and corporate greed led to high student loan debt. The access to more information on child psychology and development made them more worried about if they were raising resilient children. They became disillusioned about having it all and are a generation that actively discusses feeling overwhelmed. Access to health and mental healthcare was easier because Therapists were able to list services online. 🤳Gen Z grew up in the age of social media where they can find any community they want. They connect in a digital age as digital natives and are skeptical about having a family because the worlds bad news is constantly in front of them on their devices. They are outspoken about their mental health and deliberate about their choices to value their chosen community over their duty to fit a certain mold. #generations #genz #millenial #genx #boomer #parenting

I believe every generation does a little better than the one before. Some parents truly did the best with what they had. Some gave everything they could and did a great job. This isn’t about resentment or blame. It’s about being the generation that creates the most change. We’re living through a time of massive transformation in technology, in the world, and in the way we build our homes and raise our kids. We are a generation of feelers. We feel every generational curse. We feel the drastic shift that children bring to our lives. And we feel the changes within ourselves as we work to become better. We understand the importance of our role as parents, and we’re putting in the work to get it right. Of course, we’re imperfect. But perfection was never the goal. Alongside all the technological advancements, I believe this generation will leave a mark on the future like no generation before us. “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” — Maya Angelou Keep showing up.

Generational trauma passes through tone, reactions, discipline, silence, not just words. And so many of us were taught that obedience equals love, that fear is how you earn respect. But something powerful happens when even a child, not yet old enough to speak, senses the rupture… and chooses tenderness instead. She didn’t just stop a moment...she disrupted a pattern. This is what it looks like when the nervous system knows there’s a better way. That kind of knowing is what heals families. A large study of 20,000 families found that families with a 5–6 year age gap tend to be happier, healthier, and more stable in the long run. For years, parents were encouraged to “get it over with” close age gaps, shared baby routines, one long exhausting phase. But long-term data tells a different story. Reason #1: Full recovery physically & mentally Pregnancy 1–2 years after birth often happens before the body has fully recovered. Nutrient depletion, hormonal imbalance, chronic exhaustion. A second pregnancy at that stage takes from already empty reserves. Higher stress, harder recovery, and a significantly increased risk of postpartum depression. After 5–6 years, the body is restored. Hormones stabilize. Mental health improves. The second pregnancy is often experienced as much easier. Reason #2: The first child gets full emotional investment The first five years are critical for emotional and psychological development. When a child receives consistent attention during this stage, they tend to grow up more secure, confident, and emotionally regulated. When a second baby arrives too early, the parent is split and both children get less than they need. Reason #3: The older child becomes a helper, not a competitor. At 5–6 years old, a child understands what a baby is. They can help, empathize, participate. This builds responsibility and care, not jealousy. With a 2–3 year gap, the older child is still very young often leading to regression, jealousy, and emotional stress. Reason #4: Financial stability A larger gap allows parents — especially mothers to return to work, rebuild income and regain professional confidence. Two back-to-back parental leaves often mean years without career growth and increased financial dependence. With a 5–6 year gap, the family is usually more financially secure by the time the second child arrive The rest is in the comments 👇
