Understanding Ohm’s Law: LED Current vs. Resistance How Resistors Control LED Brightness Prototyping an LED Test Board with DIP Switches In this video, we explore the fundamental relationship between voltage, current, and resistance (I = \frac{V}{R}). By using a series of resistors ranging from 330\Omega to 22k\Omega, you can see a clear visual representation of how increasing resistance decreases the current flowing through the LED, making it appear dimmer. DIP Switch: Used to toggle different resistor paths. Resistors: Varying values to demonstrate current limiting. LEDs: Providing visual feedback of the power output. PCB: Custom marked with Ohm's Law formulas for quick reference. #Electronics #Engineering #OhmsLaw #STEM #DIYElectronics #Arduino #CircuitDesign #ElectricalEngineering #Physics #Learning

This little circuit solves a common problem in battery powered projects… how do you power something on with a button, but let the microcontroller shut itself off later? The button wakes the system up. Once the microcontroller boots, it latches its own power on using an opto-isolator and a transistor. After a period of inactivity, the firmware releases the latch and the circuit cuts power completely. The opto-isolator keeps the control side electrically isolated, which means the device draws essentially zero current when it’s off. Simple parts… clever behavior… and a really useful trick for battery powered builds. #electronics #circuitdesign #embedded #microcontroller #lowpowerdesign batteryprojects hardwaredesign makercommunity electronicsengineering engineeringlife

How do you generate a square wave using just an op-amp? This circuit uses an LM741 relaxation oscillator with positive feedback to generate a square wave. 🔋 12V supply ⚙️ LM741 Op-Amp Since the op-amp requires dual supply, I created ±6V from the 12V source using a simple capacitor-resistor circuit. Your circuit works perfectly until your hand gets near it, then it glitches, resets, or reads wrong values. Every connection is solid. The wiring is fine. Your body is acting as a capacitor. You carry 100–300pF of capacitance just from existing. When you bring your hand near a high impedance node, an unloaded ADC input, a high value resistor junction that capacitance couples directly onto the node through the electric field. No contact needed. Low impedance nodes absorb it without the voltage moving. High impedance nodes have nothing to absorb it, so the voltage swings with even the smallest injected current. This is why: Floating pins trigger randomly near your hand ADC readings jump around when you’re nearby Buttons trigger without being pressed when you approach The fix: Add a 10kΩ resistor to ground on sensitive nodes to bleed the charge away before it shifts the voltage. Add a 10nF–100nF cap on ADC inputs. This low pass filters the interference out. Pull up or pull down all unused pins, because a floating pin picks up everything. Keep signal wires short, the longer the wire, the bigger the antenna. Save this before your next build.

After spotting the problems in Part 1, it’s time to debug. First check: wiring. The power connections to 5V and ground weren’t color coded, which made it harder to see that the op amp wasn’t powered at all. Next problem: the gain resistors were in the wrong order. Then a design issue appeared — the resistor in series with the LED was 100k instead of 100Ω, so almost no current could flow. And finally… the LED itself was backwards. Debugging circuits isn’t magic. It’s just checking things step by step. Want to learn to troubleshoot circuits like this? Whether you’re just dipping your toes in the water of electronics engineering or an season electrical engineer, an Arduino is a great option for projects. Beginner options focus on basic circuits, analog vs digital, and simple sensors. Intermediate projects are like the ones done for the final project in my Intro to EE class with more complex elements, timing, and programming. The advanced projects are perfect for someone looking for a challenge with more control systems, communication protocols, and signal processing. #ardunio #engineeringinspiration #electricalengineering
