This 72-second video is a fast-paced compilation of various encounters between humans and crocodilians (alligators, crocodiles, and gharials) in diverse settings. The footage ranges from intense wildlife moments, such as a large crocodile lunging for meat suspended from a boat and another snapping at a lure during a public demonstration, to more unusual, domestic-style interactions where people are seen petting small crocodilians or even balancing objects on their heads. Other segments show these reptiles in their natural or semi-natural habitats, including an alligator swimming with a white heron perched on its back, one lurking near a golf course, and another "barking" in a pool. The video highlights the unpredictable nature of these animals, contrasting moments of surprising stillness with sudden bursts of predatory speed. #meme #funny #reels #crocodile

🐊 Rare Gharial Sighting at Palighat, Chambal – Near Ranthambore 🌿 A beautiful and rare moment captured during a boat safari at Palighat, Chambal. This video shows two Gharials (Gavialis gangeticus) peacefully enjoying each other’s company—floating gracefully in the water and slowly lifting themselves above the surface. The Chambal River is one of the last strongholds of these critically endangered reptiles, and witnessing them in their natural habitat is truly special. Such moments highlight the untouched beauty and rich wildlife of the Chambal ecosystem near Ranthambore. 🎥 Pure wilderness, calm waters, and a glimpse of nature at its finest. #Ranthambore #PalighatChambal #ChambalRiver #Gharial #GharialSafari BoatSafari WildlifeVideo NatureLovers IncredibleIndia

It’s feeding time for the Indian gharials in JungleWorld! These fascinating reptiles are armed with 110 interlocking teeth. They use their highly sensitive snouts to help them target their prey strikes and latch on to fish. At the zoo, our Indian gharials are fed twice a week, and are trained to station to specific cones placed in their JungleWorld habitat to ensure each individual receives an adequate amount of fish. Indian gharials are critically endangered, with fewer than 1,000 remaining in the wild. Join us at #RunfortheWild on Saturday, April 26 and help us secure a future for these iconic animals: Link in Profile

This captivating footage captures a group of Gharials basking in the sunlight and moving gracefully across a sandy shoreline. These unique crocodilians are instantly recognizable by their exceptionally long and thin snouts which are perfectly adapted for catching fish. As they slide over the sand near the water's edge their armored scales and powerful tails are on full display showcasing the prehistoric beauty of this critically endangered species. The video offers a rare and close-up look at their social behavior and distinctive physical features as they navigate their environment. It is a stunning reminder of the incredible diversity found in the reptile world and the importance of protecting such specialized creatures. These reptiles are native to the northern part of the Indian subcontinent and stand out as one of the longest of all living crocodilians. Their presence in the sunlight highlights the intricate patterns on their skin and the calm yet alert nature they maintain while resting. Watching them move together provides a fascinating glimpse into their group dynamics and natural habitat. The scene is both peaceful and powerful capturing the essence of these ancient survivors in a modern setting. It serves as an excellent educational snippet for anyone interested in wildlife and the unique adaptations of river-dwelling predators. The way they maneuver their large bodies with such ease across the terrain is truly a sight to behold. This clip is a perfect addition to any collection of nature-focused content and is sure to engage viewers with its high-quality visuals of these magnificent animals.

Wildlife photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee captured a moment that feels almost unreal, a male gharial carefully transporting nearly 100 hatchlings across the Chambal River 🐊✨. Unlike most crocodilians, gharials have extremely long, narrow snouts packed with needle-like teeth, perfectly evolved for catching fish but useless for carrying babies in their mouths. So nature found another solution: dad becomes a living ferry. Researchers studying gharials (Gavialis gangeticus) have documented strong paternal involvement. After hatching, the young climb onto the male’s armored back, where raised scutes create a surprisingly stable platform. He slowly swims through calmer channels, keeping predators away while guiding them toward safer nursery areas. With fewer than 1,000 mature individuals left in the wild, every hatchling matters. Gharials are indicators of healthy river systems, and their decline reflects pollution, sand mining, and habitat loss across South Asia. This single image is more than heartwarming, it’s a rare glimpse of devotion in a species fighting extinction, and a reminder that even the most fearsome reptiles can carry the future gently on their backs 🌊

These little gharials are making a BIG splash! 🐊💦 Just in time for spring break, our juvenile gharials have a brand-new habitat in the Museum of Living Art (MOLA) to call home! This exciting addition is the culmination of decades of dedication to this critically endangered species. We’re proud to be the only institution in North America to produce multiple offspring of the species AND repeat that success for three consecutive years. On your next visit to MOLA, stop by to see the adult gharials at the entrance, then head deeper into the building to meet these tiny crocs in their new habitat — experiencing the full range of this remarkable species along the way. 💚

Many locals rely upon these rivers to catch food and feed their families, sadly big Saltwater Crocodiles & False Gharials inhabit the same stretches where the fish are most plentiful ‼️🐊🌏✨ Multiple attacks occur every year, it’s crazy seeing locals swimming in these rivers everyday knowing there are 5 meter crocodiles lurking around. #crocodile #saltwatercrocodile #borneo #croc #animalsofinstagram #nature #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #natureismetal #naturelovers #reptile #snakesofinstagram #snakes #snaketattoo

Currently, only 35 individual gharials are living among nine institutions in North America. Zoo staff said the hatchlings will introduce a new bloodline and diversify the gene pool among gharials in professional care. “With this scientific breakthrough, we will be able to contribute our research and expertise to other zoos and institutions across the world in effort to bolster the population of this critically endangered species,” said Michael Fouraker, executive director of the Fort Worth Zoo, in the release. The zoo said the gharial habitat in the zoo’s herpetarium, the Museum of Living Art, was specifically crafted in 2010 with conservation as a priority. Some of the efforts made to ensure optimal breed success for the species included water temperature regulation, angled waterfront to provide easy access to both wet and dry areas, and heat coils in the sand to ensure the sand stays hot enough for the females to lay eggs. The gharial is the only surviving member of a group of animals that arose in the Cretaceous period. Once abundant throughout South Asia, Indian gharials now exist only in parts of India and Nepal, where fewer than 1,000 mature individuals are estimated to remain. The Zoo has partnered with @wildlifetrustofindia (WTI) to locate, protect, and monitor gharial nest sites along India’s Gandak River. Last year, we sent a three-person team to support WTI in expanding the Indian Gharial Recovery Program’s efforts through building an incubation center that will temporarily relocate eggs away from floods until they hatch.
