EDİstanbul'un ardından Bursa'ya giden Andre Gide, İstanbul hakkında yazdıklarının aksine Yeşil Camii ile ilgili Le Journal (Günlük) adlı eserinin "La Marche Turque" (Türk Marşı) bölümünde, Yeşil Camii’nin büyüleyici atmosferi karşısında şunları yazar:
”Dinlenme, aydınlığa dalma, denge yeri, kutsal gök mavisi, kırışıksız gök mavisi, zihnin yetkin sağlığına kavuştuğu yer... Enfes, bir tanrı yerleşmiş senin içine ey cami. Sivri kemerin silmesinin ortasında ve onu kırarak, bu çakışma ve sevgi yerinde rahatlayan, çatışmaya ara verip dinlenmeye soyunan iki eğrinin tam kesişmeleri gereken bu gizli, etkin yerde insanlara öğüt veren ve bu yassı taşın manevi asılışını sağlayan o tanrıdır. Ey ince gülümseyiş! Parça aralıkları tam kıvamında ayarlı kemer! Karşılarında ne kadar da rahatça kuruluyorsun zihnimin zarif inceliği! Uzun süre bu kutsal mekânda derin derin düşündüm ve sonunda anladım ki ibadetlerimizi bekleyen kusur bulma tanrısı buradadır ve bizi arınmaya çağırmaktadır."
