However, Global Entry — which is run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection — appears to remain suspended.
So here’s the practical takeaway.
PreCheck lanes should function.
Global Entry kiosks may not.
Staffing could fluctuate airport by airport.
I’m traveling this week, and I would still strongly advise arriving early and planning for longer wait times. The messaging has been inconsistent and the situation remains fluid.
If you’re flying internationally, you should proactively download Mobile Passport Control (MPC) — also operated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It allows eligible travelers to submit customs information through your phone and use a dedicated MPC lane at supported airports.
Two important things:
• You must confirm your arrival airport supports MPC
• Newark Liberty International Airport does support it — but Newark has had numerous reported processing issues in the past, so build in additional buffer time
With Global Entry uncertainty, MPC is your smartest contingency plan right now.
